Kenyon, Cheshire
Kenyon is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Croft, in the Warrington district, in the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. In 1931 the parish had a population of 259. History Kenyon was recorded as ''Kenien'' in 1212. ''Kenian'' in 1258 and ''Kenyan'' in 1259. It was sparsely populated, in 1901 the population was 329. Governance Kenyon was a township within the historic borders of Lancashire in Winwick ecclesiastical parish and part of Lowton until the reign of Henry III. It became part of Leigh Poor Law Union. In 1866 Kenyon became a separate civil parish, in 1933 the civil parish was abolished and became part of Golborne parish and Urban District. Golborne Urban District was dissolved in 1974 and its area divided, the Culcheth and Newchurch wards (south of the old Kenyon Junction station and Kenyon Hall) became part of Warrington District in Cheshire, the rest became part of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, in Greater Manchester. Croft, Cheshire
Croft is a village and civil parish in Borough of Warrington, Cheshire, England, about four miles north of Warrington town centre. At the 2001 census it had a population of 2,920. It is a semi-rural, residential district. Geography The village is on the northern edge of the borough of Warrington, north of the interchange of the M6 and M62 motorways, known as the Croft Interchange. It is close to the border with Merseyside and Greater Manchester, and historically was in Lancashire. It borders Culcheth to the east, Lowton to the north, Winwick to the west and Risley to the south. Croft was struck by an F1/T3 tornado on 23 November 1981, as part of the record-breaking nationwide tornado outbreak on that day. The tornado later moved over Warrington town centre. Golborne (pronounced or ) is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, in Greater Manchester, England. Bolton And Leigh Railway
The Bolton and Leigh Railway (B&LR) was the first public railway in Lancashire, it opened for goods on 1 August 1828 preceding the Liverpool and Manchester Railway (L&MR) by two years. Liverpool And Manchester Railway
The Liverpool and Manchester Railway (L&MR) was the first inter-city railway in the world. It opened on 15 September 1830 between the Lancashire towns of Liverpool and Manchester in England. Lowton is a suburban village within the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, in Greater Manchester, England. It is around from Leigh, south of Wigan and west of Manchester city centre. The settlement lies across the A580 East Lancashire Road. Newton-le-Willows is a market town in the Metropolitan Borough of St Helens, Merseyside, England. The population at the 2011 census was 22,114. Newton-le-Willows is on the eastern edge of St Helens, south of Wigan and north of Warrington. Kenyon Junction Railway Station
Kenyon Junction was a railway station at Kenyon near Culcheth in Warrington, England. The station was built at the junction of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway and the Kenyon and Leigh Junction Railway. It was situated in the historic county of Lancashire. The station opened in 1830 as Bolton Junction and closed to passengers on 2 January 1961 before closing completely on 1 August 1963.
