Kentucky Wildcats Women's Basketball
The Kentucky Wildcats women's basketball team represents the University of Kentucky in the Southeastern Conference. The Wildcats have four Elite Eight appearances and seventeen appearances in the NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament. They have won the SEC tournament twice and SEC regular season championship once. The first University of Kentucky women's basketball team was organized in 1902, and competed for the first time on Feb. 21, 1903. However, in 1924, despite a perfect 10-0 season, the University Senate passed a bill to abolish women's basketball in part because, according to state politicians, "basketball had proven to be a strenuous sport for boys and therefore was too strenuous for girls." After 50 years, women's basketball was granted varsity status in 1974, and most of the official records maintained by the university only reflect games since that time. Mitch Barnhart
Mitch Barnhart (born August 27, 1959) is the athletics director for the Kentucky Wildcats athletics program at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. Barnhart was hired by the university in 2002 succeeding Larry Ivy. Barnhart served in the same capacity at Oregon State University from 1998 to 2002. He is the university's tenth athletics director. In March 2016 Barnhart signed an extension on his contract which will keep him at Kentucky until 2022. Education Barnhart received his Bachelor of Arts from Ottawa University and a Master of Science in sports administration from Ohio University. Tenure at Kentucky Barnhart is currently the longest serving AD in the SEC. Valerie Still
Valerie Still (born 1961) is an American former professional women's basketball player with the Washington Mystics of the WNBA and the Columbus Quest of the American Basketball League (ABL). During her four years at the University of Kentucky, she scored more points than any other basketball player, male or female, with 2,763 points. Afterwards she went abroad, playing in Italy for 12 years (last team Famila Schio). During that time, she earned an Italian Professional Basketball Championship. She returned to the United States in 1996 and was drafted by the Columbus Quest of the fledgling ABL. She led the Quest to back-to-back championships, and was named MVP of the Championship Series both times. 2016-17 Kentucky Wildcats Women's Basketball Team
16-17 is a band from Basel, Switzerland. Their music combines punk rock, hardcore punk, jazz and industrial music. Biography 16-17 was founded in 1983 by Alex Buess, Knut Remond and Markus Kneubühler. When the group played its first concerts in 1983 it was received with controversial reactions: there where hardly any groups that played in an approximately similar style. Only some years later around 1986 groups like Painkiller, Last Exit or The Flying Luttenbachers appeared . 2015–16 Kentucky Wildcats Women's Basketball Team
The 2015–16 Kentucky Wildcats women's basketball team will represent University of Kentucky during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Wildcats, led by ninth year head coach Matthew Mitchell, play their home games at the Memorial Coliseum with two games at Rupp Arena and were members of the Southeastern Conference. They finished the season 25–8, 10–6 in SEC play to finish in a tie for fourth place. They advanced to the semifinals of the SEC women's tournament where they lost to South Carolina. Matthew Mitchell (basketball)
Matthew LaMont Mitchell (born December 16, 1970) is an American former college basketball coach, who was most recently head coach for University of Kentucky women's basketball. On November 12, 2020, Mitchell announced his retirement from coaching. Coaching Mitchell became the head coach of UK on April 23, 2007, succeeding former UK coach Mickie DeMoss. Prior to becoming the coach at Kentucky, Mitchell spent two years as the head coach at Morehead State. Mitchell started his coaching career as graduate assistant under Pat Summitt at Tennessee, and he also spent time as an assistant coach at Florida and Kentucky before becoming a head coach. Following the 2009–10 season, Mitchell was named the SEC Coach of the Year. Mickie DeMoss
Mickie Faye DeMoss (born October 3, 1955) is a former American college basketball coach and player. She was the women's head coach at the University of Florida and the University of Kentucky. She was also an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech University, University of Tennessee, University of Texas, Auburn University, Memphis State University, and the WNBA's Indiana Fever. DeMoss was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018 as a Contributor - Assistant Coach. Bernadette Locke-Mattox (born December 31, 1958) is a former head coach of the University of Kentucky women's basketball team. While at Kentucky in 1990, she became the first female to serve as assistant coach for a men's NCAA Division I basketball team, when she served under Rick Pitino. Sharon Cable Fanning-Otis (born December 15, 1954) is the former women's basketball program head coach at Mississippi State. During her 17-year head coach career with the Bulldogs, then team had a 281–232 (.548) record. During her tenure, she posted 6 winning seasons and 7 postseason appearances. She led MSU to its inaugural appearance in the AP Final Poll, and to its first two 20-win seasons. The 2003 team went 24–8, and finished in the Top 10. Sarah Gibson Blanding (November 22, 1898 – March 3, 1985) was an American educator and academic administrator who served as Vassar College's sixth president (1946–1964) and its first female president.
