Kentucky Route 199
Kentucky Route 199 (KY 199) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The highway connects mostly rural areas of Pike County with Huddy. Route description KY 199 begins at an intersection with KY 632 (Upper Johns Creek Road) south of McVeigh, within Pike County. Most of the southern end of the highway is a very curvy road, with many switchbacks. It travels in a fairly northerly direction, crossing over Pond Creek, and passing Grants Branch Park, before it enters McVeigh. There, the highway has a second and third crossing of Pond Creek. Northwest of McVeigh, it has a fourth crossing of the creek, then a crossing of Atkins Branch. It curves to the north-northeast and has two more crossings of Pond Creek in Pinsonfork. There, it also passes a U.S. Post Office. The highway curves to the north and intersects the western terminus of KY 1056. It curves to the northwest and crosses Pond Creek twice more. Williamson, West Virginia
Williamson is a city in Mingo County, West Virginia, United States, situated along the Tug Fork River. The population was 3,191 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Mingo County, and is the county's largest and most populous city. Williamson is home to Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College. The Tug Fork River separates Williamson from South Williamson, Kentucky. Williamson is the site of a large rail yard built by the former Norfolk and Western Railroad (now Norfolk Southern Railway), which was built to service the many coal mines of the region. The city is protected by a floodwall, completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1991 in response to devastating floods along the Tug Fork River in 1977 and again in 1984. The wall incorporates floodgates along major access points which, when locked, form a solid barrier against floodwaters. Stone, Kentucky
Stone is an unincorporated community and coal town in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. It was established in 1912. Stone was a mining community named for Galen Stone, head of the Pond Creek Coal Company which was based in Stone. In 1922 the Pond Creek Coal Company was sold to Fordson Coal Company, which was a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company. In 1936 Fordson sold the mine at Stone to Eastern Coal Company. Stone is located just across the Tug Fork from Williamson, West Virginia, upstream from Belfry, Kentucky Belfry is an unincorporated community in Pike County, Kentucky.
