Comedy drama, also known by the portmanteau ''dramedy'', is a genre of dramatic works that combines elements of comedy and Drama (film and television), drama. Early years Mason was born in San Fernando, California, and she was named after a friend of a friend of her mother. Mason moved to Hollywood after she finished high school. Diane Brewster (March 11, 1931 – November 12, 1991) was an American television actress most noted for playing three distinctively different roles in television series of the 1950s and 1960s: confidence trickster Samantha Crawford in the Western ''Maverick'' with James Garner; pretty young second-grade teacher Miss Canfield in '' Leave It to Beaver''; and doomed wife Helen Kimble in '' The Fugitive''. West Germany
