Kent Worcester
Kent Worcester (born 1959) is an American political scientist, historian, and songwriter. His work deals with popular culture, intellectual history, trade unions, and social democracy. He has written extensively on comics and graphic novels and wrote a biography of C.L.R. James, the West Indian intellectual, among many other publications. Biography Worcester received his B.A. in economics and political science from the University of Massachusetts Boston and his M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. in political science from Columbia University. From 1990 to 2000, Worcester was a program director at the Social Science Research Council, a nonprofit organization that promotes interdisciplinary research in the social sciences. He is currently a professor of political science at Marymount Manhattan College. Comics Studies
Comics studies (also comic art studies, sequential art studies or graphic narrative studies) is an academic field that focuses on comics and sequential art. Although comics and graphic novels have been generally dismissed as less relevant pop culture texts, scholars in fields such as semiotics, aesthetics, sociology, composition studies and cultural studies are now re-considering comics and graphic novels as complex texts deserving of serious scholarly study. Kenneth Prewitt
Kenneth Prewitt (born March 16, 1936) is the Carnegie Professor of Social Affairs at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, where he is also director of the Scholarly Knowledge Project. He was Director of the United States Census Bureau from 1998 to 2001. Biography Prewitt was born March 16, 1936 in Alton, Illinois. He graduated from Alton High School in 1954 and then attended DePauw University for one year before transferring to Southern Methodist University. Prewitt received a B.A. in 1958 from Southern Methodist; a M.A. in 1959 from Washington University, and a 1963 Ph.D. in political science from Stanford University with a thesis "Career patterns and role-orientations: an inquiry into the political behavior of city councilmen" and was a Danforth Fellow at the Harvard Divinity School from 1959 to 1960.
