Kenneth Wheeler (politician)
Sir Kenneth Henry Wheeler (7 September 1912 – 10 May 1996) was an Australian politician. He was born in Mernda to farmer William Henry Wheeler and Alma Nellie Bodycoat. He worked on his father's farm from the age of thirteen, and then became a retail dairyman at Coburg in 1934. On 24 January 1934, he married Hazel Jean Collins, with whom he had two children. In 1950, he amalgamated his business with Croft Dairies, to form Metropolitan Dairies, of which he became manager in 1959. A Liberal Party member, he served on Coburg City Council from 1950 to 1959 and was mayor from 1955 to 1956. In 1958, he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the member for Essendon. Mernda, Victoria
Mernda is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 28 km north-east of Melbourne's central business district, located within the City of Whittlesea local government area. Mernda recorded a population of 23,369 at the 2021 census. History The first structure by European settlers was built in 1841 and bore the title of The Bridge Inn. That same year a small flour mill was built on the Plenty River. These town enterprises provided the nucleus of a village which was initially known as Morang. The Post Office opened on 19 February 1875 as Yan Yean. Situated near the Yan Yean Reservoir and Yan Yean, the popularity of the region for recreation led Morang citizens to press for a name change. This was granted and from 1893 to 1913 the township was known as South Yan Yean. In 1913 the locality was renamed ''Mernda''. The post office and the railway station were also renamed. Barry Rowe
Barry John Rowe (born 15 October 1945) is a former Australian politician. He was born in Melbourne, and attended St Bernard's College in Moonee Ponds and then Monash University, where he received a Bachelor of Economics, and Hawthorn State College, where he received a Diploma of Education. He worked as a personnel officer, and joined the Labor Party in 1969, becoming president of the Moonee Ponds and Strathmore branches. He served on Essendon City Council from 1973 to 1979 and as mayor from 1976 to 1977; he also worked as an economics lecturer at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology from 1976 to 1979. Coburg is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Darebin and Merri-bek local government areas. Coburg recorded a population of 26,574 at the 2021 census. Sidney James Plowman (13 December 1934 – 3 May 2007) was an Australian politician. A Liberal Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, Plowman was Speaker of the Assembly on two occasions, from 1979 to 1982 and from 1996 to 1999. Early life Plowman was born in Melbourne to Dr Sidney Plowman of Frankston and his wife Marjorie. He was educated at Geelong Grammar School, after which he was an executive trainee at a civil engineering company in Melbourne. Vernon Christie
Sir Vernon Howard Colville Christie (17 December 1909 – 4 November 1994) was an Australian politician. He was born in Manly to accountant Colville Christie and Ilma Marion Allen. He was the grand-nephew of New South Wales politician Sir Arthur Renwick.
