picture info	Kenneth C. Rogers Kenneth Cannicott Rogers (born March 21, 1929) was the 5th president of Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. Stevens Institute of Technology Prior to becoming president of Stevens, Rogers was head of the physics department and obtained sizable grants under the last years of the Davis administration; a factor that largely led to him being chosen. Within his first two years in office the number of nontenured faculty was cut by ten-percent. Shortly thereafter the University followed a national trend in huge drops in graduate enrollment between 1968 and 1974, following the end of the Vietnam War. At the same time, the independent corporate "Stevens Alumni Association" attempted to raise funds in parallel with an initiative by the Board of Trustees and President." He served three terms as a Democratic U.S. senator from New Jersey (1979–1997). He ran for the Democratic Party's nomination for president in the 2000 election, which he lost to Vice President Al Gore.
