Clifford Boulton
Sir Clifford John Boulton, (25 July 1930 – 25 December 2015) was a senior official in the Parliament of the United Kingdom. From 1987 to 1994, he was the Clerk of the House of Commons. Born in Staffordshire, Boulton was educated at Newcastle-under-Lyme High School. He then did National Service for two years in the British Army and fought in the Korean War as a tank commander. Having returning to civilian life, he studied modern history at the University of Oxford. In 1953, Boulton joined the Clerk's Department of the House of Commons as an assistant clerk. He was later clerk of the Procedure Select Committee, clerk of the Commons Select Committee of Privileges and clerk of the Overseas Office of the House of Commons. Ampleforth College
Ampleforth College is a co-educational independent day and boarding school in the English public school tradition located in the village of Ampleforth, North Yorkshire, England. It opened in 1802 as a boys' school, it is situated in the grounds of the Benedictine monastery, Ampleforth Abbey. The school is in a valley with sports pitches, wooded areas and lakes. Its affiliated preparatory school, St Martin's Ampleforth, which lay across the valley at Gilling Castle, closed in 2020. The school is known as the Catholic Eton and has boarding fees of £39,900 per annum. The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by George I on 18 May 1725. The name derives from the elaborate medieval ceremony for appointing a knight, which involved bathing (as a symbol of purification) as one of its elements. The knights so created were known as "Knights of the Bath". George I "erected the Knights of the Bath into a regular Military Order".
