Markham, Ontario
Markham () is a city in the Regional Municipality of York, Ontario, Canada. It is approximately northeast of Downtown Toronto. In the 2021 Census, Markham had a population of 338,503, which ranked it the largest in York Region, fourth largest in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), and 16th largest in Canada. The city gained its name from the first Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada, John Graves Simcoe (in office 1791–1796), who named the area after his friend, William Markham, the Archbishop of York from 1776 to 1807. Indigenous people lived in the area of present-day Markham for thousands of years before Europeans arrived in the area. East Gwillimbury is a town (lower-tier municipality) on the East Holland River in the upper-tier municipality the Regional Municipality of York. It is part of the Greater Toronto Area of southern Ontario, in Canada. It was formed by the amalgamation of the Township of East Gwillimbury with all the previously incorporated villages and hamlets within the township. Kennedy Avenue ( tr, Kennedy Caddesi) is a -long avenue in Istanbul, Turkey that travels southwest from Sirkeci district to Bakırköy District and most importantly to the Atatürk Airport. Kennedy Road is an informal settlement in Durban (eThekwini), in the province of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. Formed in the late 1970s or early 1980s, the settlement was mentioned by the African National Congress (ANC) after the end of apartheid but amenities were not improved. The site is mostly not connected to sanitation or electricity. Dissatisfaction with local councillors led to 2005 protests including a road blockade, out of which the shack dwellers movemment Abahlali baseMjondolo (AbM) formed. The John F. Kennedy Expressway is a nearly freeway in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Portions of the freeway carry I-190, I-90 and I-94. The Kennedy Highway is a highway in northern Queensland, Australia. It runs as National Route 1 for approximately 243 km from Smithfield, on the northern outskirts of Cairns, to the Gulf Developmental Road in the vicinity of Forty Mile Scrub and Undara Volcanic national parks (at Minnamoolka, about 40 kilometres south of Mount Garnet). South of this junction, the road continues as the Kennedy Developmental Road (State Highway 62) to Boulia about 936 kilometres away, via Hughenden. West of the junction, National Route 1 continues as the Gulf Developmental Road to Normanton. Kennedy Road (April 18, 1968 – December 15, 1995) was a Canadian Thoroughbred Champion racehorse who dominated Canadian racing for three years before going to success in California. Background He was bred by Canadian mining magnate Arthur W. Stollery at his Angus Glen Farm in Markham, Ontario, and raced under his wife Helen's name. Racing career 1970-1972 Canadian career After his two-year-old racing season in which he was voted the Canadian 2-Year-old Champion, Kennedy Road underwent an operation to remove a bone fragment from a hind ankle. His injury did not affect his racing ability, and in 1971 he won Canada's most prestigious race, the Queen's Plate, then was voted that year's Canadian 3-Year-old Champion.
