Ken Ziffren
Ken Ziffren (born June 24, 1940) is an American entertainment attorney. In 1978, he co-founded the Century City-based entertainment law firm Ziffren Brittenham LLP. In 2014, Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti appointed Ziffren as the city's second "film czar" to advocate on behalf of the city to the state of California in regards to tax credits for in-state film production, taking the position over from the late Tom Sherak. As of 2021, he has remained in this role. A 1962 graduate of Northwestern University and a 1965 graduate of UCLA School of Law, Ziffren clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren upon graduation from the latter. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at UCLA Law since 1998 and, in 2015, he donated $5M to the school to found the school's Ziffren Center for Media, Entertainment, Technology and Sports Law. Paul Ziffren (July 18, 1913 – May 1991) was an American sports administrator. Education Ziffren was a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Law. Career During his career, Ziffren chaired the Democratic National Committee of California. In 1984, Ziffren was the chairman of the board of Summer Olympics. Law clerks have assisted the justices of the United States Supreme Court in various capacities since the first one was hired by Justice Horace Gray in 1882. Each justice is permitted to have between three and four law clerks per Court term. The chief justice is allowed to have five law clerks per Term, but no chief justice has ever done so regularly. Most persons serving in this capacity are recent law school graduates (and typically graduated at the top of their class). Among their many functions, clerks do legal research that assists justices in deciding what cases to accept and what questions to ask during oral arguments, prepare memoranda, and draft orders and opinions. The 1984 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the XXIII Olympiad and also known as Los Angeles 1984) were an international multi-sport event held from July 28 to August 12, 1984, in Los Angeles, California, United States. It marked the second time that Los Angeles had hosted the Games, the first being in 1932. California was the home state of the incumbent U.S. President Ronald Reagan, who officially opened the Games. Earl Warren (March 19, 1891 – July 9, 1974) was an American attorney, politician, and jurist who served as the 14th Chief Justice of the United States from 1953 to 1969.
