Ken Turner (Australian Rules Footballer)
Ken Turner (30 June 1935 – 11 February 2022) was a former Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the VFL. He is the father of Australian Rules footballer Jamie Turner, who also played with Collingwood. He was a cousin of former test cricketer Graham Yallop, nephew of Stan Yates and was a cousin of murdered lawyer Keith William Allan. Turner usually played on either the half forward flank or as a wingman. He was a member of Collingwood's premiership side in 1958 and represented Victoria at interstate football seven times during his career. The Collingwood Football Club, nicknamed the Magpies or colloquially the Pies, is a professional Australian rules football club based in Melbourne that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's elite competition. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. Jamie Turner
Jamie Turner (born 12 August 1962) is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the Australian Football League (AFL). Son of Collingwood premiership player Ken, Jamie would also play with the Magpies, making his debut in 1984 coming across from Montmorency. Turner established himself as a top wingman, but had the versatility to play at either end of the ground. In 1990, Turner would add the family name to the record books, being the 21st case of father and sons in premiership teams. Graham Yallop
Graham Neil Yallop (born 7 October 1952) is a former Australian international cricketer. Yallop played Test and One Day International cricket for the Australia national cricket team between 1976 and 1984, captaining the side briefly during the World Series Cricket era in the late 1970s. A technically correct left-handed batsman, Yallop played domestically for Victoria, invariably batting near the top of the order and led Victoria to two Sheffield Shield titles. He was the first player to wear a full helmet in a Test match. Early life Yallop was born at Balwyn, Victoria in 1952 and played for Richmond age-group sides in the Dowling Shield during the late 1960s. Stan Yates
Stanley Lancelot Yates (6 June 1900 – 28 December 1980) was a former Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood and Richmond in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Stan continued his football career at Northcote FC and finally as playing Captain Coach ad Fairfield FC, taking them to a premiership in 1926.
