Kenneth Roy Thomson, 2nd Baron Thomson of Fleet (September 1, 1923 – June 12, 2006), known in Canada as Ken Thomson, was a Canadian/British businessman and art collector. At the time of his death, he was listed by ''Forbes'' as the richest person in Canada and the ninth richest person in the world, with a net worth of approximately US $19.6 billion. Early life and career Thomson was born on September 1, 1923, in Toronto, Ontario. He was the son of Roy Thomson, the founder of the Thomson Corporation. Thomson was first educated at Upper Canada College before going up to St. John's College, Cambridge, where he received a degree in economics and law. Kenneth Gordon Thomson (25 February 1930 – 15 June 1969) was a Scottish footballer, who played in the Football League for Hartlepools United, Middlesbrough and Stoke City. He made 278 appearances for Stoke. Career Born in Aberdeen, Thomson was poised to sign for Stoke in 1946 from Scottish club Banks O' Dee but he was called up for national service in the Royal Air Force. After his demob Thomson joined his home town club Aberdeen. Stoke manager Frank Taylor finally got his signature for a fee of £22,000 in September 1952. A strong and commanding defender Thomson was soon made captain by Taylor. His first season with the club, in 1952–53, saw relegation to the Second Division. In the final match against Derby County he chose to take a penalty awarded and missed, had he scored Stoke could have stayed up. Charles Kenneth Thomson (January 7, 1899 – January 26, 1967) was an American character actor active on stage and on film during the silent and early sound film eras. Early years Born in Pittsburgh, Thomson was the son of Edith Taylor Thomson, a concert manager, who raised him alone after his father died when Kenneth was seven years old. As a youth, he worked as a copy boy at the ''Pittsburgh Leader'' and helped to distribute publicity material for concerts that his mother arranged. Later, he worked for a steel company and an insurance company During World War I, Thomson was in the United States Marine Corps, with his service including being a gunner on the U. S. Frederick cruiser. At the war's end, he went to the Norfolk Navy Yard until he was discharged. Kenny Thomson (born 9 November 1951) is a Scottish former footballer, who played for Dunfermline, Alloa Athletic, St Johnstone and Cowdenbeath. He achieved one of the highest total of Scottish league appearances: 654, between 1970 and 1992. Playing career Thomson started playing at Townhill Boys Club Thomson made his Dunfermline debut in August 1970 and despite being part of the team relegating from the first division in 1971-72 he played a part in Dunfermline coming straight back up in 1972-73. After the league restructuring and another relegation Thomson played a key role in the club's promotion in 1979 and was presented with the Dunfermline Player of the Year award. However, he was freed by new manager Pat Stanton in 1982. Thomson joined Alloa Athletic where he helped them achieve promotion in 1984-85 and later St Johnstone who were promoted to the Premier Division in 1990.
