Ken Melville
Peter Kennedy Melville (born 11 February 1931) is a former Australian rules football player in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Ken Melville had his short career at Melbourne during the early period of Melbourne's golden era. He was a member of 1955 and 1956 premiership teams before retiring at the end of the 1956 season. Melbourne University Football Club, often known simply as University, is an Australian rules football club based at the University of Melbourne. The club fields two teams, known as the "Blacks" and "Blues", who both compete in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) in the William Buck Premier Division. The club achieved prominence by being a member of Victoria's elite competition in the early 20th century, the Victorian Football League (VFL; now AFL), between 1908 and 1914, departing after its strict policy of amateurism left it uncompetitive in an increasingly professional league. It is one of only three clubs to leave the competition in its entire history. Benalla is a small city located on the Broken River gateway to the High Country north-eastern region of Victoria, Australia, about north east of the state capital Melbourne. At the the population was 10,822. It is the administrative centre for the Rural City of Benalla local government area. History Prior to the European settlement of Australia, the Benalla region was populated by the Taungurung people, an Indigenous Australian people. A 1906 history recounts that prior to white settlement "as many as 400 blacks would meet together in the vicinity of Benalla to hold a corrobboree". The area was first sighted by Europeans during an expedition of Hamilton Hume and William Hovell in 1824 and was noted as an agricultural settlement called "Swampy".
