Ken Jones (footballer Born 1936)
Kenneth Jones (2 January 1936 – 18 January 2013) was a Welsh professional footballer. A goalkeeper, he was part of the Wales squad for the 1958 FIFA World Cup in Sweden. Career Jones began his career at Cardiff City, developing a reputation for his long goal kicks which would often reach the opposition goal. After losing his place in the first team to Ron Nicholls, he moved to Scunthorpe United in December 1958 where he went on to spend the majority of his career at the club. In 1959, while still a Scunthorpe player, he received a single vote for the Ballon d'Or, the prize for the best footballer in Europe. After leaving the club in 1964, he had spells at Charlton Athletic and Exeter City before moving into non-league with Yeovil Town. During one match for Yeovil in 1968, he was once substituted after conceding 5 goals in 11 minutes. Aberdare
Aberdare ( ; cy, Aberdâr) is a town in the Cynon Valley area of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales, at the confluence of the Rivers Dare (Dâr) and Cynon. Aberdare has a population of 39,550 (mid-2017 estimate). Aberdare is south-west of Merthyr Tydfil, north-west of Cardiff and east-north-east of Swansea. During the 19th century it became a thriving industrial settlement, which was also notable for the vitality of its cultural life and as an important publishing centre. Etymology The name ''Aberdare'' means "mouth/confluence of the river dare", as the town is located where the Dare river ( cy, Afon Dâr) meets the Cynon ( cy, afon Cynon). While the town's Welsh spelling uses formal conventions, the English spelling of the name reflects the town's pronunciation in the local Gwenhwyseg dialect of South East Wales. Ron Nicholls (cricketer, Born 1933)
Ronald Bernard Nicholls (4 December 1933 – 21 July 1994) was an English first-class cricketer who played for Gloucestershire. In a game in 1962 against Oxford University he opening the batting with Martin Young and they put on 395 runs. The partnership remains the highest for any wicket by Gloucestershire and Nicholls made his career best score of 217. He finished the year with 2059 runs. He also kept wicket in some John Player League games. The ''Western Mail'' is a daily newspaper published by Media Wales Ltd in Cardiff, Wales owned by the UK's largest newspaper company, Reach plc.
