Ken Jones (rugby Union, Born 1921)
Kenneth Jeffrey Jones OBE (30 December 1921 – 18 April 2006) was a Welsh sprinter and record breaking Welsh international rugby union footballer. He played for both Wales and the British Isles. He is best known in Wales for his contribution to Welsh rugby, but most notably for his winning try against the All Blacks in 1953. Early life Jones was born in Blaenavon, Monmouthshire on 30 December 1921Smith (1980), pg 334. and as a youth attended West Monmouth Grammar School in Pontypool. He was a Deputy Commissioner of Victoria Police in Australia, former President of Association of Chief Police Officers for England, Wales and Northern Ireland in the United Kingdom and Senior Investigator of Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) of Hong Kong. Kenneth Wayne Jones (November 9, 1950 – January 13, 2021) was an American LGBT rights activist. Life and career Jones was born in Paterson, New Jersey, to parents Viola and Hannibal Jones. He had a sister. After moving to San Francisco in 1969, Jones joined the Navy and served three tours in Vietnam War. In 1972, he was assigned to Treasure Island, San Francisco, before being honorably discharged. He had said, "In those days you'd get a dishonorable discharge if they discovered you were gay. I was a Vietnam vet with medals. A dishonorable discharge was not in my cards." After the service, Jones moved to the Castro District, San Francisco in 1973, where he began working for the San Francisco Pride committee, eventually becoming its leader. The Hon. Kenneth Arthur Newton Jones (1924–1964), better known as Ken Jones, was a Jamaican politician and former Minister of Communications and Works (1962–1964). Early life Ken Jones and his twin brother Keith were born on September 1, 1924 in Portland Parish of Jamaica. Their father, Frederick McDonald Jones O.B.E., was a planter and a prominent member of the local Anglican Church. Their mother, Gladys (nee Smith), was a Quaker Missionary. She was a graduate of William Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and she arrived at Happy Grove School in Portland in 1918 for her mission. Gladys Jones played an important role in the school, including helping to initiate the transformation of the school into an academic high school. (as he was known to his friends) was educated at a local high school before leaving at the age of sixteen to start a career in journalism. Kenneth Leon Jones (June 9, 1938 – May 13, 1993) was an American television journalist, actor, reporter and news anchor. He was Los Angeles television's first black weeknight news anchor, working for Los Angeles television station KTTV-TV channel 11 and KNXT channel 2 (now known as KCBS-TV). Jones was known for his reports on the 1965 Watts riots and the assassination of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy in 1968. Ken Jones also conceived and published, along with his wife Regina Jones, SOUL, a black entertainment newsmagazine, from 1966-82. In 1992, Ken was diagnosed with bladder cancer and after a short battle with the disease, died in May 1993. Kennedy Jones or Jonesey (1 August 1900 – 6 September 1990) was an American guitarist and music writer. He was born on a farm in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. He received his inspiration from his mother Alice who played several instruments. He married Irene Hicks, a pianist, and they performed together early in his career. He claimed to be the first guitarist to play using a thumbpick - at a square dance in 1918. Previously thumbpicks had been used only for the banjo or Hawaiian guitar. He also played the fiddle and declined to join Merle Travis's band ''The Drifting Pioneers.'' Jones composed the thumbpickers anthem "Cannonball Rag," but when Travis recorded the tune in the 1940s, the latter received the credit. In 1939 Jones moved to Chicago.
