Ken Dryden
Kenneth Wayne Dryden (born August 8, 1947) is a Canadian politician, lawyer, businessman, author, and former National Hockey League (NHL) goaltender. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada and a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame. He was a Liberal Member of Parliament from 2004 to 2011 and Minister of Social Development from 2004 to 2006. In 2017, the league counted him in history's 100 Greatest NHL Players. He received the Order of Hockey in Canada in 2020. Early life and education Dryden was born in Hamilton, Ontario, in 1947. His parents were Murray Dryden (1911–2004) and Margaret Adelia Campbell (1912-1985). He has a sister, Judy, and a brother, Dave, who was also an NHL goaltender. Dryden was raised in Islington, Ontario, then a suburb of Toronto. He played with the Etobicoke Indians of the Metro Junior B Hockey League as well as Humber Valley Packers of the Metro Toronto Hockey League. Dave Dryden
David Murray Dryden (September 5, 1941 – October 4, 2022) was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender, who created and first used the modern goaltending mask, consisting of fibreglass and a cage. From 1962 to 1980, he played nine seasons in the National Hockey League for the New York Rangers, Chicago Black Hawks, Buffalo Sabres, and Edmonton Oilers, and in the World Hockey Association between 1974 and 1979 with the Chicago Cougars and Edmonton Oilers, as well as for other smaller teams in other minor leagues. Early life Dryden was born in Hamilton, Ontario, on September 5, 1941. His father, Murray, worked as a brick salesman and became a philanthropist; his mother, Margaret (Campbell), was a kindergarten teacher. He was the older brother of Ken Dryden. Murray Dryden
Murray Dryden, (October 14, 1911 – February 1, 2004) was a Canadian philanthropist. He was also the father of Hockey Hall of Famer and politician Ken Dryden, Dave Dryden and Judy Dryden. Born in Domain, Manitoba, the eldest of eight children of Scottish parents, Dryden worked on his family's farm until finishing grade 11 in 1928 when he moved to Winnipeg to look for a job. In 1932, he found work selling plant food in Hamilton, Ontario and married Margaret Campbell in 1938. They had three children: Ken, Dave, and Judy. In 1948, Dryden moved with his family to Etobicoke, in the western portion of Toronto, where he sold building materials. An amateur photographer, he enjoyed taking pictures of children at sleep. In 1970, after retiring, Dryden founded with his wife the charity Sleeping Children Around the World (SCAW), whose mission is to "give bed kits to needy children in developing countries".
