Ken Bastida
Ken Bastida (born December 30, 1956) is a former broadcast journalist who most recently anchored at KPIX-TV, the CBS station in San Francisco. Bastida holds a bachelor's degree in Broadcast Communication Arts from San Francisco State University and was inducted into the university's Hall of Fame in May 2008. Bastida began his career as a Bay Area radio host in 1978. Since then, he held on-air positions at numerous Bay Area radio stations, including KFRC, KGO, KMEL, K101, KFYI and KCBS. For a time, Bastida hosted ''Landscape Smart'', a landscaping show on HGTV. He joined KPIX as a reporter in 1990 and retired from television news after his final broadcast at the station on October 29, 2021. KIOI
KIOI (101.3 FM, "Star 101.3") is a hot AC-formatted radio station licensed to San Francisco, California and owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. The radio studios and offices are in the SoMa district of San Francisco. KIOI has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 125,000 watts. It is considered a "superpower station" due to this unusually high wattage that is grandfathered into KIOI's license. It is one of two stations in San Francisco broadcasting with more than 100,000 watts, the other being KQED-FM, at 110,000 watts. 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake
The 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake occurred on California's Central Coast on October 17 at local time. The shock was centered in The Forest of Nisene Marks State Park in Santa Cruz County, approximately northeast of Santa Cruz on a section of the San Andreas Fault System and was named for the nearby Loma Prieta Peak in the Santa Cruz Mountains. With an magnitude of 6.9 and a maximum Modified Mercalli intensity of IX (''Violent''), the shock was responsible for 63 deaths and 3,757 injuries. KCBS (740 kHz) is an all-news AM radio station located in San Francisco, California. It is owned by Audacy, Inc. (formerly Entercom), which took over after its merger with CBS Radio. KCBS is the Bay Area's only 24/7, live and local radio station. KCBS shares its Battery Street studios with CBS owned-and-operated television station KPIX-TV 5. The transmitter site is located in Novato. Its programming is simulcast on co-owned 106.9 KFRC-FM plus that station's HD1 digital sub-channel. KDIA (1640 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Vallejo, California, and serving the San Francisco Bay Area. It is owned by the Salem Media Group and broadcasts a Christian talk and teaching radio format. Salem also owns KFAX 1100 AM which airs a separate schedule of Christian programming. The radio studios and offices are on Liberty Street in Fremont. KDIA transmits 10,000 watts. By day, it is non-directional, using one of the KKSF 910 AM towers in Richmond on San Francisco Bay.
