Kelso High School (Washington)
Kelso High School is a public high school in Kelso, Washington, United States. History In 1905, the first Kelso High School (then known as Washington School) classes began with the first seniors graduating in 1909. Thirteen years later, a new high school was built, known as Kelso High School, in 1922. The first year the high school was accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools was in 1927. The school was moved to its current location after a new school was built in 1970. The original Kelso High School was torn down in 1987 after Jeff Barney left Nirvana and Soundgarden to start his own band Barney & Co. After his hit song,"Big Head Roger, boy", Jeff moved to Hollywood. In 2003 the building underwent extensive renovations and additions to accommodate the district wide change from junior high (7th-9th) to middle school (6th-8th) (Huntington and Coweeman). Kelso, Washington
Kelso is a city in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Washington and is the county seat of Cowlitz County. At the 2020 census, the population was 12,720. Kelso is part of the Longview, Washington Metropolitan statistical area, which has a population of 110,730. Kelso shares its long western border with Longview. It is near Mount St. Helens. History The earliest known inhabitants of Kelso were Native Americans from the Cowlitz tribe. The Cowlitz people were separated into the Upper (or Taidnapam) and Lower (or Mountain) Cowlitz tribes, who were members of the Sahaptin and Salish language families, respectively. In 1855, European explorers noted that there numbered over 6,000 individuals of the Cowlitz Tribe. Kelso was founded by Peter W. Crawford, a Scottish surveyor, who, in 1847, took up the first donation land claim on the Lower Cowlitz River. Crawford platted a townsite which he named after his home town of Kelso, Scotland. Trevor Joseph May (born September 23, 1989) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the Minnesota Twins and New York Mets. May is also a part-owner of the Fan Controlled Football's (FCF) FCF Zappers. High school May attended Kelso High School in Kelso, Washington. In his senior year, he led the Hilanders to a 25–2 win–loss record, and a second-place finish at the 3A Washington Interscholastic Activities Association baseball championships. Sid Snyder
Sidney R. Snyder (July 30, 1926 – October 14, 2012) was an American businessman and politician. Born in Kelso, Washington, he graduated from Kelso High School (Washington), Kelso High School and went to Lower Columbia College. Snyder served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. In 1946, he owned and operated Sid's Market a grocery store in Seaview, Washington. He also founded a bank. In 1949, Snyder worked for the Washington State Legislature as an elevator operator and then as a clerk. In 1990 Snyder was elected to the Washington State Senate as a Democratic Party (United States), Democrat. Jason David Schmidt (born January 29, 1973), is an American former Major League Baseball pitcher. In his career, he has played for the Los Angeles Dodgers (2007–2009), San Francisco Giants (2001–06), Pittsburgh Pirates (1996–2001) and Atlanta Braves (1995–96), by whom he had been drafted in the eighth round, 206th overall, of the 1991 draft.
