Kelp Records
Kelp Records is a Canadian record label based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It was formed in March 1994 by Jon Bartlett in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The record label has worked with a number of Canadian artists, including Andrew Vincent, The Acorn, Jim Bryson, HILOTRONS, Chris Page, Flecton Big Sky, Camp Radio, Andy Swan, The Michael Parks, The Flaps, Rhume and Greenfield Main. Other former roster members include Paperjack, Nineteenseventyeight, Professor Undressor, and Traiyf. Ohbijou was a Canadian indie pop band that was based in Toronto, Ontario. The music of Ohbijou draws on pop, folk and bluegrass influences. The Weakerthans
The Weakerthans are an award-winning and Juno-nominated Canadian indie rock band from Winnipeg. The band, led by John K. Samson, has released four studio albums and is currently inactive. History The band was formed in 1997 in Winnipeg, Manitoba by John K. Samson, after he left the punk band Propagandhi to start a publishing company. Samson joined bassist John P. Sutton and drummer Jason Tait of Red Fisher, another band from Winnipeg's punk scene, and created The Weakerthans as a vehicle for a more melodic and introspective brand of songwriting than their previous projects. The origin of the band's name was explained, in 2004 by Samson, as having come from "a few places." The first was a line from the 1992 film '' The Lover'': "Go ahead, I'm weaker than you can possibly imagine." Adam and the Amethysts was a Canadian indie rock band formed in Montreal in 2004. The band was fronted by Adam Waito, a former member of Miracle Fortress. The band released two albums and toured mostly around North America. History Waito was born in Manitouwadge, Ontario, raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario and moved to Montreal in the early 2000s. He co-founded Telefauna in 2004, an indie-pop band whose that played the Pop Montreal festival three times. They released ''Their 1st EP'' in 2005 and a single "Under the Underground Water" b/w "Bamboo Shoot" in 2007. Waito launched ''Adam and the Amethysts'' with the release of ''Amethyst Amulet'' on June 10, 2008, on Pome Records. The album was an ode to Waito's home town, referencing 60s pop and Neil Young. Andrew Vincent is a New Zealand former professional rugby league footballer who played for the North Sydney Bears. Playing career A junior in the Canterbury Rugby League competition, Vincent played for the Junior Kiwis in 1985 and 1986.Coffey, John. ''Canterbury XIII'', Christchurch, 1987.
