29th Berlin International Film Festival
The 29th Berlin International Film Festival was held from 20 February – 3 March 1979. The Golden Bear was awarded to the West German film ''David'' directed by Peter Lilienthal. Michael Cimino's ''The Deer Hunter'' was surrounded by controversy, as it was accused of racism, and several countries decided to withdraw their films from the festival in protest. The retrospective was dedicated to Italian actor Rudolph Valentino and to another one titled "We Danced Around the World. Revue Films". Birgitta Trotzig
Birgitta Trotzig (11 September 1929 – 14 May 2011) was a Swedish writer who was elected to the Swedish Academy in 1993. She was one of Sweden's most celebrated authors, and wrote prose fiction and non-fiction, as well as prose poetry. Biography Trotzig was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, as an only child. The family lived initially with her maternal grandparents in Gothenburg, later moving to the small southern city of Kristianstad, where her parents' parents worked as teachers. She graduated from grammar/high school in 1948. Trotzig returned to Gothenburg and studied literary history. She began writing for the national newspaper ''Aftonbladet'' and for the literary magazine ''Bonniers Litterära Magasin''. The Guldbagge for Best Actor in a Leading Role is a Swedish film award presented annually by the Swedish Film Institute (SFI) as part of the Guldbagge Awards (Swedish: "Guldbaggen") to actors working in the Swedish motion picture industry. Sigurd Björling (2 November 1907 - 8 April 1983) was a Swedish operatic baritone. He made his debut as Alfio in ''Cavalleria Rusticana'' in 1935 at Royal Swedish Opera. He specialized in Wagnerian roles, among them Wotan, Telramund, Amfortas, Hans Sachs and Kurwenal. His United States debut came on October 3, 1950, in San Francisco (as Kurwenal), and next year he was the first postwar-Wotan at the Bayreuth Festival. On November 15, 1952, he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera, singing there for a full season.
