Keith Sullivan
Keith Sullivan is an Australian former professional darts player. Career Sullivan played in three BDO World Darts Championships. In 1991, he defeated future world champion Raymond van Barneveld in the first round, but lost to Alan Warriner in round two. In 1992 he defeated Peter Evison 3–1 in the first round but was defeated by Rod Harrington 3–2 in the second round. In 1993, he lost in the first round to Bobby George. He also played in the Winmau World Masters twice, in 1991 where he lost in the first round to Dave Kelly, and in 1992 where he beat Peter Locke to progress into the second round where he was beaten by Kevin Spiolek. He won the 1991 Australian Grand Masters and reached the semi-final of the 1991 British Open. The 1991 Embassy World Darts Championship was held at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green, Surrey from 4–12 January 1991. Bobby George
Robert Francis George (born 16 December 1945) is an English television presenter and former professional darts player. He is widely recognised as one of the game's biggest personalities, known for his flamboyant entrances in which the "King of Darts" makes his way to the stage bedecked in jewellery, wearing a crown and cloak and holding a candelabra to the Queen song 'We Are the Champions'. George won several leading major darts tournaments, he won the News of the World Darts Championship twice and appeared in two BDO Darts World Championship finals and was the first full-time exhibition player. Since 1998, George has also worked for the BBC as a co-presenter and promoter of the game in their coverage of darts tournaments. Kevin Spiolek
Kevin Spiolek (born 5 May 1962 in Cambridge) is a retired English professional darts player who played during the 1980s and 1990s. He made a brief return to form in 2006, when qualifying to play in the PDC World Darts Championship. Career His best form came in the late 1980s, when he reached the semi-finals of the 1987 Winmau World Masters, losing to Bob Anderson. In 1988, Spiolek reached the final of the prestigious News of the World Darts Championship, losing to Mike Gregory. Spiolek is one of ten players to have beaten Phil Taylor at the World Championship – having knocked him out in the second round at Lakeside in the 1993 World Championship – the last time that there was a unified World Championship. Peter Locke (darts Player)
Peter Locke is a Welsh former professional darts player. Darts career Locke made his World Championship debut in the 1983 BDO World Darts Championship, losing in the first round to Terry O'Dea. A year later in the 1984 BDO World Darts Championship, he reached the quarter-finals, defeating Russell Stewart in the first round and then Malcolm Davies in the second round before losing to the eventual champion Eric Bristow in a 5-0 whitewash. In the 1985 BDO World Darts Championship, he lost in the first round to Fred McMullan. Locke then reached the final of the 1985 British Open, losing to John Cosnett. Dave Kelly (darts Player)
David Francis Kelly (May 11, 1956 – June 1, 2020) was an American professional darts player who played in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Career Kelly played in the 1993 BDO World Darts Championship, losing in the first round to Martin Phillips of Wales. He was brought in to make up the numbers in the inaugural 1994 WDC World Darts Championship, and lost both his matches to Bob Anderson and Gerald Verrier. He also competed in the 1997 WDC World Darts Championship, losing in the preliminary round to Ritchie Gardner. Kelly left the PDC in 2008. He died on June 1, 2020. Winmau World Masters
The World Masters is one of the longest-running and most prestigious of the BDO/WDF tournaments, which began in 1974. The tournament is sponsored by darts board manufacturer, Winmau. The World Masters was unusual in darts in that its sets are the best of 3 legs (first to 2) rather than the standard best of 5 legs (first to 3). It was previously the final leg of the BDO's Grand Slam title of televised majors, along with the BDO World Darts Championship, International Darts League and World Darts Trophy, until the latter two tournaments were axed in 2008. The champion is referred to as the World Master. After the collapse of the British Darts Organisation in September 2020, the World Darts Federation announced plans to launch the WDF World Masters. 1993 BDO World Darts Championship
The 1993 Embassy World Darts Championship was the 16th staging of the competition, and it turned out to be the last time that the sport had a unified World Championship (until 2021). In 1994 following a breakaway the PDC staged its own World Championship for the first time. In 1989 and 1990, the Embassy World Championship was the only darts tournament which had received television coverage, and a group of 16 players (including all but one of the previous World Champions) wanted to appoint a PR consultant to improve the image of the game. They created the World Darts Council (WDC), later the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) in late January 1992, soon after a controversial VHS release of the 1992 Embassy World Final between Phil Taylor and Mike Gregory. The 1992 Embassy World Darts Championship was held from 3–11 January 1992 at the Lakeside Country Club, Frimley Green, Surrey. With Eric Bristow and defending champion Dennis Priestley both going out in round two, the way was paved for the top two seeds, Phil Taylor and Mike Gregory, to make it to the final – notably, the first final since the inauguration of the World Championship in 1978 that featured neither Bristow nor John Lowe. In a titanic affair, full of big scores and high checkouts, it went to the final set and a tiebreak, where Gregory missed two chances each at double 8, double top and double 10 for the title. Rod Harrington
Rodney Harrington (born 30 December 1957) is an English former professional darts player and former commentator. He used the nickname "The Prince of Style" for his matches, often wearing a suit and waistcoat for his games. Harrington enjoyed some major success during his professional career including the prestigious Winmau World Masters in 1991 and two successive World Matchplays in 1998 and 1999. At the PDC Awards Dinner held in January 2019, Harrington was inducted into the PDC Hall of Fame.
