Keith Higgins
Keith Higgins ( ga, Ceiteach Ó hUiginn) is an Irish sportsperson. He has played both Gaelic football and hurling for Mayo GAA, the former until his retirement in January 2021. He also plays both sports for his club Ballyhaunis. In 2006, he was the All Stars Young Footballer of the Year. He also captained both the Mayo under-21 football and hurling teams to All-Ireland Championships. Injury ruled him out of the 2007 championship. Higgins also represented Mayo at senior level in both codes, played for Connacht in hurling's Railway Cup, winning a medal in 2005, while in 2014 he became the first Connacht player to win football and hurling Railway Cups after Connacht won a first title since 1968. Hurling is his first love. He plays it for Ballyhaunis. In 2005, Higgins won a Christy Ring Cup All Star while playing for the Mayo county team. National Football League (Ireland)
The National Football League (NFL; ga, Sraith Náisiúnta Peile) is an annual Gaelic football competition between the senior county teams of Ireland plus London. Sponsored by Allianz, it is officially known as the Allianz National Football League. The Gaelic Athletic Association organises the league. The winning team receives the New Ireland Cup, presented by the New Ireland Assurance Company. The National Football League is the second most prestigious inter-county Gaelic Football competition after the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. Unlike many league competitions in sport, each team plays the other teams in their division only once. Teams that meet in the same division over the course of a number of years often play on a home and away basis in alternative years, though this is not strictly adhered to. Nicky Rackard Cup
The Nicky Rackard Cup (; often referred to as the Rackard Cup) is the fourth tier of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. Each year, the champion team in the Nicky Rackard Cup is promoted to the Christy Ring Cup, and the lowest finishing team is relegated to the Lory Meagher Cup. The Nicky Rackard Cup, which was introduced for the 2005 season, is a recent initiative in providing a meaningful championship for third tier teams deemed "too weak" for any higher grades. The winners of the championship receive the Nicky Rackard Cup, named after former Wexford hurler Nicky Rackard regarded as one of the greatest hurlers of all time. 2004 Interprovincial Hurling Championship
The 2004 Interprovincial Hurling Championship was the 77th series of the inter-provincial hurling championship, also known as the Railway Cup. Three matches were played between 23 October 2004 and 5 December 2004 to decide the title. It was contested by Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster. Leinster entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Munster at the semi-final stage. On 5 December 2004, Connacht won the Railway Cup after a 1-15 to 0-09 defeat of Munster in the final at Pearse Stadium in Galway. It was their 11th Railway Cup title overall and their first title since 1998. Connacht's Niall Healy and Munster's Eoin Kelly were the Interprovincial Championship joint top scorers with 0-12 each. 2005 National Hurling League
The 2005 National Hurling League, known for sponsorship reasons as the Allianz National Hurling League, was the 74th edition of the National Hurling League (NHL), an annual hurling competition for the GAA county teams. Kilkenny GAA, Kilkenny won the league, beating Clare GAA, Clare in the final. An experimental rule was trialled in the 2005 NHL, with two points being awarded for a point scored directly from a sideline cut. 2018 National Hurling League
The 2018 National Hurling League was the 87th season of the National Hurling League for county teams. Wexford finished top of Division 1B in 2017 and were promoted to Division 1A for 2018. Galway finished second in Division 1B in 2017 and so missed out on promotion, even though they subsequently won the Division 1 league final. Cavan re-entered the National Hurling League in Division 3B, having previously withdrawn. Lancashire also entered in Division 3B for the first time. Eir Sport and TG4 provided live TV coverage of the league on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons respectively. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire GAA, Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. Connacht Junior Hurling Championship
The Connacht Junior Hurling Championship is a junior "knockout" competition in the game of Hurling played in the province of Connacht in Ireland. The series of games are organised by the Connacht GAA, Connacht Council. The winners of the Connacht Junior Hurling Championship each year progress to play the other provincial champions for a chance to win the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship. The championship was first played for in 1925. The province was represented by Galway GAA, Galway in the years 1913 to 1915, 1923 to 1924 and 1927 and 1938. All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship
The All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship was a hurling competition organized by the Gaelic Athletic Association in Ireland. The competition was originally contested by the second teams of the strong counties, and the first teams of the weaker counties. In the years from 1961 to 1973 and from 1997 until now, the strong counties have competed for the All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling Championship instead. The competition was then restricted to the weaker counties. The competition was discontinued after 2004 as these counties now compete for the Nicky Rackard Cup instead. From 1974 to 1982, the original format of the competition was abandoned, and the competition was incorporated in Division 3 of the National Hurling League. The Gaelic Athletic Association-Gaelic Players' Association All Stars Awards (often known simply as the All Stars) are awarded annually to the best player in each of the 15 playing positions in Gaelic football and hurling. Additionally, one player in each code is selected as Player of the Year. The awards were instituted in 1971. Since 2011 they have been presented jointly by the Gaelic Athletic Association and the representative body for inter-county players, the Gaelic Players Association. The Sigerson Cup is the trophy for the premier Gaelic football championship among Higher Education institutions (Universities, Colleges and Institutes of Technology) in Ireland. It traditionally begins in mid January and ends in late February. The Sigerson Cup competition is administered by Comhairle Ard Oideachais Cumann Lúthchleas Gael (CLG), the GAA's Higher Education Council.
