Keith Conlon (broadcaster)
Keith Conlon, LL.B. 1968, B.A. 1968 (University of Adelaide), OAM, is a veteran Australian broadcaster based in Adelaide. Conlon previously presented talk radio station 5AA's breakfast program with Jane Reilly, and formerly with Jon Blake, John Kenneally and Tony Pilkington. He is also the current chairman of the Crows Foundation for children in need. In 1971, The University of Adelaide's Department of Adult Education appointed Conlon as the Producer/Manager of its new community radio station which commenced broadcasting as VL5UV on 28 June 1972. He also formerly hosted ''Postcards SA'' on the Nine Network from 1995 until it was cancelled in November 2011. Conlon has also worked at ABC 891 where his former colleague John Kenneally was his producer. Adelaide Town Hall
Adelaide Town Hall is a landmark building on King William Street in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. The City of Adelaide Town Hall complex includes the Town Hall and the office building at 25 Pirie Street. Description and history Adelaide Town Hall was designed by Edmund Wright and E. J. Woods, with construction by Charles Farr commencing in 1863 and completed in 1866. The tower, whose foundation stone was laid on 13 January 1864, is named after Prince Albert and is slightly shorter than the Victoria Tower of the GPO on the other side of King William Street. Townsend Duryea's famouPanorama of 1865was taken from the Albert Tower. The clock, by Thomas Gaunt & Co of Melbourne, was donated by Lavington Bonython and installed in 1935. 891 ABC Adelaide
ABC Radio Adelaide (call sign: 5AN) is the ABC Local Radio station for Adelaide. It is broadcast at 891 kHz on the AM band. It is also available on Digital TV in Adelaide. History 5AN started transmitting on 15 October 1937 with equipment located in the central telephone exchange, and a radio mast located in Post Office Place. The station transmitter moved to Brooklyn Park, already the site of 5CL's transmitter, on 4 May 1944. The radio mast was moved from the east side of the building to the south side in 1952 to make way for a road to the projected new airport. The proximity of the transmitter site to the airport was inconvenient for both operations, so a new transmitter site was built in open fields at Pimpala, at the corner of Sherriffs and Hillier Roads, Reynella, and was opened on 20 September 1961 by the Postmaster-General C W Davidson. Blackwood, South Australia
Blackwood is a south eastern suburb located in the foothills of Adelaide, South Australia. It is part of the local government area of the City of Mitcham. History The name "Blackwood" most likely comes from either the Acacia melanoxylon, also known as the Australian blackwood, which grows in the nearby Mount Lofty Ranges, or the Eucalyptus odorata, which grows in Blackwood and has dark bark. The earliest reference to Blackwood was a mention of Blackwood Vale Farm in 1847, though this is in present-day Glenalta. One of the earliest places named for Blackwood was the Blackwood Inn, which opened in 1869. In 1880 it changed names to the Belair Hotel. ''Postcards'' is an Australian holiday and travel television series on the Nine Network. History There were originally three different versions of ''Postcards'', each produced and broadcast within its specific city or market. In 1995, Adelaide's Nine Network produced their first series. It promoted holiday spots within South Australia, encouraging viewers to travel within their state. Soon after, the Nine Network in Melbourne launched their own state-based version and Nine Network in Perth followed in 1999 with ''Postcards WA''. In 2007, WIN Television purchased Nine Network in Adelaide and Perth.
