''Keep Posted'' (later known as ''The Big Issue'' is an American public affairs TV series on the DuMont Television Network which was sponsored by '' The Saturday Evening Post'' for its first two seasons. Broadcast history ''Keep Posted'' is a 30-minute program that aired on DuMont on Tuesdays at 8:30 pm EST from October 9, 1951, to January 18, 1954. The title was changed to ''The Big Issue'' after the ''Post'' stopped sponsoring the program in May 1953. Martha Rountree was the moderator, and Lawrence Spivak and Ray Wood were among the panelists. Both Rountree and Spivak were involved in the creation of '' Meet the Press'' on NBC. Episodes included one in which United States Senators Robert A. Taft and Richard B. Russell debated foreign policy on April 22, 1952. Martha Rountree
Martha Jane Rountree (October 23, 1911 – August 23, 1999) was an American pioneering broadcast journalist and entrepreneur. She was the creator and first moderator of a public-affairs program, first on radio as ''The American Mercury'' from June 24, 1945 to 1947, and as ''Meet the Press'' on the NBC television network from November 6, 1947 to November 1, 1953. She is the only female moderator in the seven-decade history of the show. Early years Born in Gainesville, Florida, Martha Jane Rountree was raised in Columbia, S.C. Her father Earl was in sales, at times in real estate, and at other times, selling automobiles, but he was not successful. Lawrence Edmund Spivak (June 11, 1900 – March 9, 1994) was an American publisher and journalist who was best known as the co-founder, producer and host of the prestigious public affairs program ''Meet the Press''. He and journalist Martha Rountree founded the program as promotion for Spivak's magazine, ''The American Mercury'', and it became the longest-running continuous network series in television history. ''The Saturday Evening Post'' is an American magazine, currently published six times a year. It was issued weekly under this title from 1897 until 1963, then every two weeks until 1969. The DuMont Television Network was launched in 1946 and ceased broadcasting in 1956. Allen DuMont, who created the network, preserved most of what it produced in kinescope format. By 1958, however, much of the library had been destroyed to recover the silver content of the film prints, and eventually the remaining material was simply discarded.
