Alfred Keene
Alfred Valentine Keene (14 May 1873 – 1 March 1955) was a British fencing, fencer. He competed at the 1908 Summer Olympics, 1908 and 1912 Summer Olympics. Information Keene was born at Bramley, Surrey, Bramley in Surrey where his family owned the manor house and educated at St Paul's School, London, St Paul's School in London. He later lived in Shalford, Surrey. In addition to being an Olympian, Keene was a self-employed stockbrocker and served in World War 1. He reached the rank of major and was awarded the Territorial Decoration, the 1914–15 Star and the Victory Medal (United Kingdom) , Victory Medal. Keene came in third in the 1908 British Sabre Championships, along with his brother, Richard. Keene had also reached the final pool of the British Sabre Championships on several occasions. Donald Lawrence Keene (June 18, 1922 – February 24, 2019) was an American-born Japanese scholar, historian, teacher, writer and translator of Japanese literature. Keene was University Professor emeritus and Shincho Professor Emeritus of Japanese Literature at Columbia University, where he taught for over fifty years. Soon after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, he retired from Columbia, moved to Japan permanently, and acquired citizenship under the name . This was also his poetic and occasional nickname, spelled in the ''ateji'' form . Early life and education Keene was born in 1922 in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York City and attended James Madison High School. Joseph Keene
Joseph Keene (April 3, 1839 – December 1, 1921) was an American soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Keene received his country's highest award for bravery during combat, the Medal of Honor. Keene's medal was won for his actions at the Battle of Fredericksburg in Virginia, where he voluntarily seized his regiments colors after several Color Bearers had been shot down and led his regiment in the charge on December 13, 1862. He was honored with the award on December 2, 1892. Keene was born in England. He joined the 26th New York Infantry from Utica, New York in May 1861, and mustered out with this regiment after two years. He re-enlisted with the 3rd New York Heavy Artillery in June 1863, and mustered out with this regiment in July 1865. Keene was later buried in Whitesboro, New York Whitesboro is a village in Oneida County, New York, United States. The population was 3,772 at the 2010 census. Jean Keene (October 20, 1923 – January 13, 2009), also known as the Eagle Lady, was a former rodeo trick rider who became the subject of national attention due to her feeding of wild bald eagles on the Homer Spit in Homer, Alaska. Although she had many supporters for the feedings, she was also criticized for drawing a large population of eagles to the area. Jasmine Keene (born 14 January 1987 in Perth, Western Australia) is an Australian netball player, primarily in the position of goal shooter. She is the daughter of Australian rules football player Laurie Keene, who played for the West Coast Eagles. Jasmine Keene debuted in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy for the Perth Orioles in 2006, before transferring to the AIS Canberra Darters the following year. Keene was not signed for the inaugural season of the ANZ Championship, but returned to Perth in 2009 to play with the West Coast Fever. In 2010 she moved again to the Adelaide Thunderbirds. Henry George Keene (1826 – 26 March 1915) was an English historian of medieval and modern India. Life Keene was born at the East India College, Haileybury. Henry George Keene (1781–1864) was his father. He was educated at Rugby School and Wadham College, Oxford, going to India as an East India Company employee in 1847. His career as an official was limited, but he began to write. From 1847 to 1882 Keene served in the Bengal Civil Service. During the Indian Rebellion of 1857 he was Superintendent at Dehra Doon. In his subsequent service Keene was in frequent disagreement with his superiors, and when he reached the 35 years' limit he had not got beyond the grade of a district and sessions Judge. Henry Keene (architect)
Henry Keene (15 November 1726 – 8 January 1776) was an English architect, notable for designing buildings in the Gothic Revival and Neoclassical style. Life and work Keene was born in the London area, and at the age of 20 became Surveyor to the Dean and Chapter of Westminster. Six years later, he was appointed Surveyor of the Fabric of Westminster Abbey. He worked in Ireland at various times between 1752 and 1766, but nearly all his known surviving buildings are in England, especially in London and Oxford, where he had houses, and on various country estates. While much of his work is in the neo-classical style, he was an early exponent of Strawberry Hill Gothic, making good use of his knowledge of the Gothic details of Westminster Abbey.
