Kazan Arrows
Kazan Arrows, sometimes called Strela Kazan, are a rugby league and rugby union club from Kazan, Tatarstan in Russia. They were formed in 1989 and play in the Russian Championship, the top-tier of rugby league in Russia. Since late 2009 they have decided to run their senior team as a rugby union team Russian Championship They won their first piece of silverware in 1993, and from 1995 through to 1999 became the best club in Russia having won the Russian Championship in each of those years. In 2000 they had a bad season but returned in 2001 to retrieve their trophy. But they then lost it again in 2002. Playing In England In 1998 they went on tour round Great Britain and were hosted by the London Skolars. During the tour they also played the Rugby League Conference Runners Up Leicester Phoenix at Saffron Lane. They then hosted the Skolars in 1999. Russian Championship (rugby League)
The Russian Championship (sometimes referred to as the Russian Super League or the Championship of Russia) is the major rugby league tournament for clubs in Russia. Currently six teams from across Russia compete in this competition. The league is governed by the Russian Rugby League. It was established in 1991 to form a national rugby league competition from the many amateur and semi-professional leagues in Moscow, Kazan and other districts of Russia. An attempt was made to organize and register a national competition during the USSR era, but permission was denied on the basis of the professional status of the game. York International 9s
York International 9s is an international rugby league nines tournament taking place in York, England. It is held at Heworth ARLC's Elmpark Way ground on the north east side of the city. The 2007 tournament took place on Saturday 14 July. The tournament was first held in 2002 as part of City of York Council's Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations. The competition was awarded a 5* rating from the Rugby League European Federation and was the first nines event in Europe. The tournament last took place in 2009. Format The 2007 event has been streamlined with all the competitions taking place on one day rather than two, and eight teams, rather than 12, competing in the Fairfax Cup. The new competition format has the eight teams split into two pools of four, with the top two from each group qualifying for the semi-finals. The Keighley Cougars are a professional rugby league club from Keighley in West Yorkshire, England who compete in League 1, the third tier of English rugby league. Keighley's home ground, Cougar Park has a capacity of 7,800. History Early years The club was formed at a meeting held on 17 October 1876 under the presidency of the Reverend Marriner. A committee was elected and the club was allowed the use of Holmes' field in Lawkholme Lane.
