Kawango Agot
Kawango Agot is a Kenyan professor at the University of Nairobi. Agot's research focuses on HIV, HIV transmission, and male circumcision. She is the Project Coordinator of a joint research project between her university and the universities of University of Illinois, Illinois and University of Manitoba, Manitoba (UNIM), evaluating the effect of male circumcision among HIV in young men. She is an HIV specialist. A Fulbright scholar, she earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Philosophy from Moi University, and a PhD and MPH at the University of Washington. Human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is a spectrum of conditions caused by infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), a retrovirus. Following initial infection an individual may not notice any symptoms, or may experience a brief period of influenza-like illness. Typically, this is followed by a prolonged incubation period with no symptoms. If the infection progresses, it interferes more with the immune system, increasing the risk of developing common infections such as tuberculosis, as well as other opportunistic infections, and tumors which are rare in people who have normal immune function. These late symptoms of infection are referred to as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). This stage is often also associated with unintended weight loss. Moi University
Moi University is a public university located in Kesses, Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu county, in the former Rift Valley Province of Kenya. It was established in 1984 by the Moi University Act of the Parliament of Kenya, after recommendations from the McKay Commission. The current chancellor of the university is Professor Miriam Were while the vice-chancellor is Professor Isaac Sanga Kosgey. History Moi University was first established in 1984.
