Kauri is a locality in Northland, New Zealand. State Highway 1 passes through the area. Kamo is to the south, and Hikurangi is to the north. Mt Parakiore is a volcanic dome rising 391 metres (1,283 ft) to the southwest. It is about one million years old, and part of the Harbour Fault, which also includes Mt Hikurangi near Hikurangi, and Parahaki in Whangarei. The area, initially called Kaurihohore, was settled by immigrants from Nova Scotia in 1856. Jingpho (''Jinghpaw'', ''Chingp'o'', ''Jìngphòʔ gà'' / ဈိာင်ဖေါစ်) or Kachin ( my, ကချင်ဘာသာ, ), is a Tibeto-Burman language of the Sal branch mainly spoken in Kachin State, Burma and Yunnan, China. There are many meanings for Jingpho. In the Jingpho language, Jingpho means people or Jinghpho tribe. The term "Kachin language" can refer either to the Jingpho language or to a group of languages spoken by various ethnic groups in the same region as Jingpo: Lisu, Lashi, Rawang, Zaiwa, Lhao Vo, Achang and Jingpho. These languages are from distinct branches of the highest level of the Tibeto-Burman family. The Jingpho alphabet is based on the Latin script. The ethnic Jingpho (or Kachin) are the primary speakers of Jingpho language, numbering approximately 900,000 speakers. Hans Kauri
Hans Kauri (until 1935, Hans Mühlberg; May 30, 1906 – January 30, 1999) was an Estonian entomologist, zoologist, and politician. He also worked with other groups of fauna, especially arachnids. He had a strong impact on zoological studies at the University of Bergen. One biographer characterized Kauri as follows: "in all areas he created a professional stimulating environment for both young and older researchers. However, he was a very determined gentleman, who asserted his ideas and opinions with great strength." Estonia and Sweden Kauri studied zoology at the University of Tartu in Estonia. He was interested in dragonflies and damselflies (Odonata). During this time he also worked on a manuscript, but it was lost in a fire during the Second World War. The Kauri-butanol value ("Kb value") is an international, standardized measure of solvent power for a hydrocarbon solvent, and is governed by an ASTM standardized test, ASTM D1133.ASTM D1133 - 10 Standard Test Method for Kauri-Butanol Value of Hydrocarbon Solvents The result of this test is a scaleless index, usually referred to as the "Kb value". A higher Kb value means the solvent is more aggressive or active in the ability to dissolve certain materials. Kauri gum is resin from kauri trees (''Agathis australis''), which historically had several important industrial uses. It can also be used to make crafts such as jewellery.
