Katy Freels
Mary Kathryn Freels (; born April 8, 1990) is an American former professional soccer midfielder. She played for Sky Blue FC of the NWSL. Early life Freels was raised in Homewood, Alabama, where she attended Homewood High School. Auburn University Freels attended Auburn University and played for the Tigers from 2008 to 2010. After her freshman season, she was named South Eastern Conference (SEC) Freshman of the Year, First Team All-SEC, and SEC All-Freshman Team. She received the Tigers' Team Offensive MVP, Rookie of the Year and Coaches Award. She earned Soccer America All-Freshman Team, SoccerBuzz Freshman All-American and All-Region team honors and was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com All-Rookie Second Team. Homewood is a city in southeastern Jefferson County, Alabama, Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The Atlanta Beat was an American soccer club based in Atlanta, Georgia that competed on a professional level. The team joined Women's Professional Soccer as an expansion team in 2010, and played its home games at Kennesaw State University Soccer Stadium, the result of a public-private partnership between the team and Kennesaw State University. The club took the name and logo of the former Atlanta Beat (WUSA) of the defunct Women's United Soccer Association. 2016 National Women's Soccer League Season
The 2016 National Women's Soccer League season was the fourth season of the National Women's Soccer League, the top division of women's soccer in the United States. Including the NWSL's two professional predecessors, Women's Professional Soccer (2009–2011) and the Women's United Soccer Association (2001–2003), it was the tenth overall season of FIFA and USSF-sanctioned top division women's soccer in the United States. The league is operated by the United States Soccer Federation and receives major financial backing from that body. Further financial backing is expected to be provided by the Canadian Soccer Association. Both national federations pay the league salaries of many of their respective national team members in an effort to nurture talent in those nations. The Women's Premier Soccer League Elite (WPSL Elite) was a women's semi-professional soccer league created by the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) to support the sport in the United States, both from continued interest by WPSL teams in professionalism and as a response to the suspension (and ultimate demise) of the WPS.
