Kathy Sheehan
Katherine M. Sheehan (born December 5, 1963) is an American politician and attorney serving as the 75th List of mayors of Albany, New York, Mayor of Albany, New York. Prior to being elected Mayor, Sheehan served as City Treasurer from 2010 to 2013. On September 10, 2013, she defeated Corey Ellis in the Democratic primary for mayor of Albany. She later won the general election, becoming the first female mayor in Albany's history. She was re-elected in Mayoral elections in Albany, New York#2017, 2017 and Mayoral elections in Albany, New York#2021, 2021. Early life and education Sheehan was born outside Chicago and grew up in the Midwest. She is one of six children. From its formal chartering on 22 July 1686 until 1779, the mayors of Albany, New York, were appointed by the royal governor of New York (state), New York, per the provisions of the original city charter, issued by Governor Thomas Dongan. From 1779 until 1839, mayors were chosen by the New York State's Council of Appointment, typically for a one-year term that began in September. From 1840 on, Albany's mayors were directly elected by the city's residents. Beginning in 1886, mayoral terms began on January 1 of the year after the mayor was elected. Patricia Fahy is an American politician and a member of the Democratic Party, who currently represents parts of Albany County in the New York State Assembly, including most of western Albany. She was previously president of the Albany City Board of Education. Electoral history 2012 elections On September 13, 2012, there was a primary election in the Democratic Party to replace the retiring incumbent Jack McEneny, who had been an assemblyman for 20 years. Arbor Hill is a neighborhood in Albany, New York, Albany, New York, generally defined as the area from Streets of Albany, New York#Clinton Avenue, Clinton Avenue north to Tivoli Hollow and the Livingston Avenue Railroad Bridge and from Streets of Albany, New York#Broadway, Broadway west to Streets of Albany, New York#Knox Street/Northern Boulevard/Henry Johnson Boulevard, Henry Johnson Boulevard. The Arbor Hill Historic District–Ten Broeck Triangle, originally the Ten Broeck Historic District, is a seven-block area located within the Arbor Hill neighborhood north of what is today downtown Albany, New York, United States. In 1979 its easternmost third, the Ten Broeck Triangle, the second oldest residential neighborhood in the city, was recognized as a historic district and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Four years later, the district was increased to its current size and renamed to reflect its expansion to include some of the rest of Arbor Hill. The future district was first established by its oldest contributing property, the Ten Broeck Mansion, built at the end of the 18th century by a prominent local family.
