Kathy Cary
Kathy Cary (born 1954) is owner and executive chef at Lilly's Bistro in Louisville, Kentucky and a seven-time James Beard Award nominee. Cary grew up on a farm and has been noted for her work in the farm-to-table movement, emphasizing locally sourced ingredients. In addition to Lilly's Bistro, Cary also owns La Peche Gourmet To Go. In May 2015, she competed on the Food Network's show '' Beat Bobby Flay''. Among other nominations, Cary was one of 20 semifinalists for the 2015 James Beard Foundation's restaurant and chef awards. In 2016, she was again named a semifinalist, one of 20 named to the foundation's "Best Chef: Southeast" list. James Beard Award
The James Beard Foundation Awards are annual awards presented by the James Beard Foundation to recognize chefs, restaurateurs, authors and journalists in the United States. They are scheduled around James Beard's May 5 birthday. The media awards are presented at a dinner in New York City; the chef and restaurant awards were also presented in New York until 2015, when the foundation's annual gala moved to Chicago. Farm-to-table (or farm-to-fork, and in some cases farm-to-school) is a social movement which promotes serving local food at restaurants and school cafeterias, preferably through direct acquisition from the producer (which might be a winery, brewery, ranch, fishery, or other type of food producer which is not strictly a "farm"). This might be accomplished by a direct sales relationship, a community-supported agriculture arrangement, a farmer's market, a local distributor or by the restaurant or school raising its own food. ''Beat Bobby Flay'' is an American cooking competition show on the Food Network. It features various chefs competing against Bobby Flay. The show is taped in front of a live audience. Format In the first round, two guests, often a celebrity chef and a friend of Flay, introduce two contestants who cook for 20 minutes against each other using an ingredient chosen by Flay.
