Katherine Chen
Yi-Ning Katherine Chen is a Taiwanese professor and former national communications regulator who teaches public relations and statistics at National Chengchi University. , she serves as a member of Facebook's independent Oversight Board. Chen attended Taipei First Girls' High School and received a B.S. in plant pathology from the National Taiwan University in 1988, followed by an M.S. in that field from the same institution in 1990. She received a second M.S. in journalism from National Chengchi University in 1996, and a Ph.D. in that subject from the University of Texas at Austin in 1999. Chen became a professor at National Chengchi University in 2004 and served as Associate Dean of the College of Communication there from 2010 to 2014, when she became a member of the National Communications Commission in 2014. National Chengchi University
National Chengchi University () is a public research university in Taipei. The university is also considered as the earliest public service training facility of the Republic of China. First established in Nanjing in 1927, the university was subsequently relocated to Taipei in 1954. It is considered to be one of the most prestigious and prominent universities in Taiwan. The university, abbreviated as NCCU, specializes in arts and humanities, mass media, linguistics and literature, social sciences, economics, management, politics, and international affairs programs. 2020 Taiwanese Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Taiwan on 11 January 2020 along with the 10th Legislative Yuan election. Incumbent president Tsai Ing-wen and former premier William Lai of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) won the election, defeating Kaohsiung mayor Han Kuo-yu of the Kuomintang (KMT) and his running mate Chang San-cheng, as well as third-party candidate James Soong. Following major losses during the 2018 Taiwanese local elections, Tsai Ing-wen resigned from her party's chairmanship and was challenged in the primary contest by former Premier William Lai, himself a former Tsai appointee. The Hong Kong national security law, officially the Law of the People's Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, is a piece of national security legislation concerning Hong Kong.
