Katherine Anne Porter School
The Katherine Anne Porter School, commonly referred to as KAPS, is a public charter high school in Wimberley, Texas, United States. It was founded in 1998 by Maltese politician and educator Yana Bland and named after Pulitzer Prize-winning American writer Katherine Anne Porter. The ''Austin American-Statesman'' described it as a "small, eclectic high school." In the 2018–2019 school year, KAPS had 167 students across grades nine through twelve, and its faculty currently consists of only 25 members. The school has been said to "foster a love for learning, creative thinking, and community involvement" and features numerous afterschool activities and clubs. The school claims to be nondiscriminatory on the basis of "race, color, sex, age, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, marital status, genetic identification, political affiliation, or disability in matters affecting employment," and students there have been said to be "very aware of environmental issues." Wimberley, Texas
Wimberley is a village in Hays County, Texas, United States. It is still predominantly a ranching area outside of town. The population was 2,839 at the 2020 census. History Wimberley started as a trading post settlement near Cypress Creek in 1848, the year Hays County was organized. After William Carvin Winters built a gristmill at the site in 1856, it took on the name "Winters' Mill". When the mill was sold in 1864 to the Cude family, its name was changed to "Cude's Mill". It was sold again in 1874 to Pleasant Wimberley and took on his name. Over the years, the mill was expanded to process lumber, shingles, flour, molasses, and cotton. The mill is gone, but Winter's home survives and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1880, Alfred vom Stein, a postmaster from San Marcos, applied to have a post office established in the community, calling it "Wimberleyville".
