Kataoka Nizaemon XII
was a Japanese kabuki actor of the Kamigata tradition; also known as Jinzaemon.Dower, John W. ''Embracing Defeat: Japan in the Wake of World War II''. New York: W.W. Norton & Company, 1999. p109. His violent death at the hands of a starving writer living on the actor's property has been cited by scholars such as John Dower as an example of the chaos and "social disintegration" in the months and years immediately following Japan's defeat in World War II. Drue Kataoka is a Japanese American visual artist, known for her Sumi-e art. In 2012, she was chosen Young Global Leader for the World Economic Forum summit at Davos. She is based in Silicon Valley, California. Early life and education Kataoka was born in Tokyo, Japan and lived there until age 5. Her family moved to Washington D.C., then onto Seattle and later to Silicon Valley. Biography Early career Born to a ''samurai'' family in the Satsuma domain (present day Kagoshima prefecture), Kataoka entered the 3rd class of the Imperial Japanese Naval Academy in 1871, and served as a midshipman on the corvette . Kataoka Tamako
(5 January 1905 in Sapporo – 16 January 2008) was a Japanese ''Nihonga'' painter. She is known for her series of Mount Fuji and other mountains, painted in bold colours such as red. Biography Tamako Kataoka was born in Sapporo, Japan in 1905. In 1923, she enrolled to study the traditional Japanese painting style Nihonga at the Women’s Special School of Art in Tokyo. She decided to further her studies and acquired a teaching post at Ooka state primary school in Yokohama for the next thirty years, and at the Women’s University of Fine Art for another fifteen. In 1962, Kataoka traveled to Europe, visiting France, Italy, and the UK. It was during this forty-day excursion that the western influence in her work stemmed. , previously known as , is a Japanese actress, voice actress and singer from Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Some of her major roles are Nagisa Saitou in ''Squid Girl'', Sakura Nankyoku in ''Penguin Musume'', Uta Yumeno in ''Onegai My Melody'', Kotono Hayama in '' Saint October'', Mion Takamine in ''Pretty Rhythm''. Chiezō Kataoka
(March 30, 1903 – March 31, 1983) was a Japanese film and television actor most famous for his starring roles in jidaigeki. Career Born in 1903 in Gunma Prefecture (his real name was Masayoshi Ueki), he was raised in Tokyo. As a child he began training in Kabuki in a theatre troupe run by Kataoka Nizaemon XI, and appeared in one film in 1923. He eventually entered the movie world for good in 1927 first at Makino Productions, but following the lead of other former Makino stars like Tsumasaburō Bandō, Chiezō started his own independent production company, Chiezō Productions, the next year. That studio became the longest lasting of the independent, star-centered productions, in part because it had such talented directors as Mansaku Itami and Hiroshi Inagaki, and produced such masterworks as '' Akanishi Kakita''. a.k.a. Yasui Shūchi is a Japanese director and screenwriter primarily known for his work in '' pink films'' but who has also worked in adult videos (AV) and in mainstream film. Life and career Kataoka was born in Hokkaido on November 23, 1950. He studied at the College of Economics at Kanto Gakuin University but dropped out before graduation. In the early 1980s he began to work at producer-director Kan Mukai's Shishi Productions. At first he worked as an assistant director for Mukai and Yōjirō Takita and then released his debut film as a director in 1983, ''Yokoku Bōkō: Yaru! is a Japanese professor of Urdu at Daito Bunka University, where he also serves as dean of the Faculty of International Relations and director of the Institute of Contemporary Asian Studies. Kataoka Naoharu
was a Japanese entrepreneur and politician during the prewar period. He served as Minister of Commerce and Industry (1924), Minister of Finance (1927), and a member of the House of Peers (1930-1934). Biography Kataoka was born on October 13, 1859 in Tosa Province (present-day Kōchi Prefecture). He served as an official in the police department of Shiga Prefecture. In 1880, he was transferred to Tokyo, where he caught the attention of Itō Hirobumi and was recruited into the Home Ministry. However, in 1889, Kataoka was recruited away from a career to accept the post of vice president of Nippon Life Insurance Company, and subsequently served as president of the company from 1903–1919.
