The Kashmiri Wikipedia ( ks, کٲشُر وِکیٖپیٖڈیا) is the Kashmiri language edition of Wikipedia. It was launched in 2004. On 29 November 2021 it crossed 1000 articles mark. As of , it has articles and registered users and it is the largest edition of Wikipedia by article count. History Kashmiri Wikipedia was started in 2004. The first edit was done on 25 March 2004 by an anonymous user who added Kashmir letters to Main page. This date is also celebrated as the Birthday of Kashmiri Wikipedia. Kashmiri Language
Kashmiri () or Koshur (, /kəːʃur/) is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by around 7 million Kashmiris of the Kashmir region, primarily in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. In 2020, the Parliament of India passed a bill to make Kashmiri an official language of Jammu and Kashmir along with Dogri, Hindi, Urdu and English. Kashmiri is also among the 22 scheduled languages of India. Kashmiri has split ergativity and the unusual verb-second word order. Geographic distribution and status There are about 6.8 million speakers of Kashmiri and related dialects in Jammu and Kashmir and amongst the Kashmiri diaspora in other states of India. The precise figures from the 2011 census are 6,554,36 for Kashmiri as a "mother tongue" and 6,797,587 for Kashmiri as a "language" (which includes closely related smaller dialects/languages). Urdu Wikipedia ( ur, ), started in January 2004, is the Urdu language edition of Wikipedia, a free, open-content encyclopedia. As of , it has articles, registered users and files, and it is the largest edition of Wikipedia by article count, and ranks 26th in terms of depth among Wikipedias. There were 3.7 million page views in December 2022. History Wikipedia started being multilingual in May 2001. The Hindi Wikipedia ( , ) is the Modern Standard Hindi edition of Wikipedia. It was launched in July 2003. As of , it has articles, and ranks 10th in terms of depth among Wikipedias. In October 2021, there were 72 million page views. It is the first Wikipedia to be written in a variety of Hindustani, followed by the Urdu Wikipedia, launched in January 2004. The Telugu Wikipedia ( te, తెలుగు వికీపీడియా) was begun on 10 December 2003 by Venna Nagarjuna, who is known for Padma (a system for transforming text in Indic scripts among open-source and proprietary formats).
