Karşıyaka
Karşıyaka () is a district of İzmir Province in Turkey. The district extends for twelve kilometres along the northern and eastern coastline of the tip of the Gulf of İzmir. Its centre is at a distance of to the north from the traditional centre of İzmir, which is Konak Square in Konak at the opposite coast. Karşıyaka's district area neighbours the district areas of Menemen to the north, Bornova to the east and Çiğli to the west. Besides being an active venue of commerce, culture and educational activities and tourism, Karşıyaka also has an urban culture centred on the sports club Karşıyaka SK, which commands a large and passionate fan base. Geology Late created formations around Izmir consist of sandstone, shale and limestone blocks some of which may be larger than several kilometers. Karşıyaka Women's Volleyball Team is a Turkish women's volleyball department of Karşıyaka SK, a major sports club based in Karşıyaka, İzmir. This team play their matches at the 6500-seated Karşıyaka Arena. History The team was founded and has been promoted to Turkish First League in the 1982. The team finished the Turkish First League as 3rd in 2006-07 season. It was biggest success in the club history. Çiğli (''Silleon'' in Greek) is a metropolitan district of İzmir in western Turkey. It covers the northern end of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality around the mouth of the River Gediz, across the Gulf of İzmir from the main city.
