Karsten Sturmay
Karsten Sturmay (born November 7, 1996 in Edmonton, Alberta) is a Canadian curler originally from Leduc, Alberta. He is formerly the skip of the Alberta Golden Bears men's curling team in university curling and on the World Curling Tour. Curling career As a junior curler, Sturmay won three provincial junior championships, in 2015, 2016 and 2018. At the 2015 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, Sturmay led his Alberta rink of Tristan Steinke, Brett Winfield and Mac Lenton to a 7-3 record before losing to Quebec in a tie-breaker match, missing the playoffs. At the 2016 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, he led his team of Steinke, Christopher Kennedy and Caleb Boorse to a 6-4 record, missing the playoffs. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. Kurt Balderston
Kurt Balderston (born c. 1963) is a Canadian curler from Sexsmith, Alberta. Career Balderston is a former Canadian Mixed champion, having won the 1992 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. Since then he has played in four national mixed championships, in 1998, 2001, 2012 and 2013. He finished as the runner-up in 2012 and in sixth place in 2013, when Cheryl Bernard replaced his regular third Desirée Owen. Balderston won a sixth provincial mixed title in 2018 and will represent Alberta at the 2019 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. Balderston has also competed in the Alberta curling provincials multiple times. His best finishes were as the runner-up in 1991, 1992, 2002, and 2004. He was third for Mike Vavrek in 1991 and 1992, when he lost both finals to Kevin Martin, and skipped his own team in 2004 when he lost to Randy Ferbey. Grand Slam (curling)
The Grand Slam of Curling (branded as the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling for sponsorship reasons) is a series of curling bonspiels that are a part of the annual World Curling Tour. Grand Slam events offer a purse of at least CAD$100,000, and feature the best teams from across Canada and around the World. The Grand Slam was instituted during the 2001–02 season for men and 2006–07 for women (with the 2006 Players' Championship also considered a Slam), but some of the Grand Slam events have longer histories as bonspiels. Brendan Bottcher
Brendan Michael Bottcher (born December 19, 1991) is a Canadian curler from Sherwood Park, Alberta. Bottcher is a three-time provincial men's champion, and was the skip of the 2021 Canadian men's championship team, having led Alberta to victory at the 2021 Tim Hortons Brier. Born in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Bottcher enjoyed a successful junior career winning the 2012 Canadian Junior Curling Championships and the 2012 World Junior Curling Championships. He was also the 2010 Alberta junior men's champion and the 2007 Alberta juvenile provincial finalist. Bottcher skips his own team out of the Saville Sports Centre in Edmonton. 2018 Boston Pizza Cup
The 2018 Boston Pizza Cup was held 31 January to 4 February at the Grant Fuhr Arena in Spruce Grove, Alberta. The Boston Pizza Cup is the Alberta provincial championship for men's curling, run by Curling Alberta. The winner represents Team Alberta at the national men's championship, called the Tim Hortons Brier. Currently sponsored by restaurant chain Boston Pizza, under former sponsors, the championship was known as the Alberta Kia Cup and the Safeway Select. Aaron Squires
Aaron John Squires (born November 10, 1992, in Victoria, British Columbia) is a Canadian curler from St. Thomas, Ontario. He formerly played on the World Curling Tour. As a junior curler, Squires and his St. Thomas Curling Club rink of Jason Camm, David Easter and Curtis Easter won the 2013 Pepsi Ontario Junior Curling Championships. The team then represented Ontario at the 2013 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, where they posted a 7–3 record before losing a tie-breaker match to Manitoba's Matt Dunstone rink. Later in the year, Squires was added to the Jake Higgs rink at the 2013 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials Qualifying Tournament as an alternate.
