Karolos Koun
Karolos Koun ( el, Κάρολος Κουν; September 13, 1908 in Bursa – February 14, 1987 in Athens) was a prominent Greek theater director, widely known for his lively staging of ancient Greek plays. Biography Koun was born in Bursa, Ottoman Empire to a Greek mother and a Polish Jewish father. He was educated in Ottoman Turkey until the end of high school. He graduated from Robert College in Istanbul and then went to Sorbonne for his university education. As his family's economic situation worsened, he couldn't continue his education. He had been praised all over Europe for his bawdy, colorful stagings of the 5th century BC political comedies of Aristophanes. In 1942, he founded the experimental ''Art Theater'' and its drama school. Koun gave premieres in Athens of works by avant-garde European playwrights such as Bertolt Brecht and Luigi Pirandello. Karolos Papoulias
Karolos Papoulias ( el, Κάρολος Παπούλιας ; 4 June 1929 – 26 December 2021) was a Greek politician who served as the president of Greece from 2005 to 2015. A member of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK), he previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1985 to 1989 and again from 1993 until 1996. Early life Karolos Papoulias was born in the village of Molyvdoskepastos, Ioannina on 4 June 1929, and was the son of Major General Gregorios Papoulias. He attended primary school in Pogoniani and secondary schools in Pogoniani, Zosimaia School in Ioannina, and in the Paleo Faliro and Pangrati districts of Athens. The Nazi invasion of Greece in April 1941 caught him studying in Pogoniani and Papoulias joined the armed resistance against the Germans. Karolos Trikolidis (24 July 1947 – 20 January 2022) (german: Karl Kaspar Trikolidis, el, Κάρολος Τρικολίδης) was a conductor of Greek-Austrian origin. Life and career Trikolidis was born in Bad Aussee, Allied-occupied Austria, to a Greek father and Austrian mother. He studied at the music universities of Vienna and Salzburg. He studied violin with Günter Pichler, composition with Alfred Uhl and Cesar Bresgen, percussion with Richard Hochrainer and conducting with Hans Swarowsky and Miltiades Caridis. He took part as active participant in the annual masterclasses of Franco Ferrara, Pierre Boulez and Herbert von Karajan.
