''Karol: A Man Who Became Pope'' ( pl, Karol - Człowiek, który został Papieżem, it, Karol, un uomo diventato Papa) is a 2005 TV miniseries written and directed by Giacomo Battiato, and created as a Polish- Italian-French-German and Canadian joint cooperation project. ''Karol'' is a biography of Karol Wojtyła, later known as Pope John Paul II, beginning in 1939 when Karol was only 19 years old and ending at the 1978 papal election that made him Pope. The TV miniseries was initially to air in early April 2005 in the Vatican, but it was delayed due to the Pope's death. It was broadcast for the first time by the Italian television station Canale 5 on the first day of the 2005 papal election. Although it was originally broadcast on television, it was also released in theaters, which allowed the film to be shown in Poland. Giacomo Battiato is an Italian film director and writer. One guide to Italian cinema says he:''The History of the Italian Cinema'' (Princeton University Press, 2009), p. ?? 2005 Papal Conclave
The 2005 papal conclave was convened to elect a new pope following the death of Pope John Paul II on 2 April 2005. After his death, the cardinals of the Catholic Church who were in Rome met and set a date for the beginning of the conclave to elect his successor. Of the 117 eligible members of the College of Cardinals, those younger than 80 years of age at the time of the death of Pope John Paul II, all but two attended. After several days of private meetings attended by both cardinal electors and non-voting cardinals, the conclave began on 18 April 2005. It ended the following day after four ballots with the election of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, Dean of the College of Cardinals and Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Stefan Wyszyński
Stefan Wyszyński (3 August 1901 – 28 May 1981) was a Polish prelate of the Catholic Church. He served as the bishop of Lublin from 1946 to 1948, archbishop of Warsaw and archbishop of Gniezno from 1948 to 1981. He was created a cardinal on 12 January 1953 by Pope Pius XII. He assumed the title of Primate of Poland. Lech Mackiewicz (born 1960 in Skierniewice, Poland) is a Polish actor, director, playwright; graduate of the National Academy of Theatrical Arts (PWST) in Cracow (Poland 1983), and UTS (University of Technology Sydney 1987). Karol Wojtyła (senior)
Karol Wojtyła (18 July 1879 – 18 February 1941) was a soldier, a non-commissioned officer of the Austro-Hungarian Army and a Captain (armed forces), Captain of the Polish Armed Forces (Second Polish Republic), Polish Armed Forces' administration and the father and namesake of Karol Józef Wojtyła, who later became Pope John Paul II in 1978. He died from what is believed to be a heart attack in 1941 while his son was away, and this event is considered to have influenced his son's decision to join the seminary. Ennio Fantastichini (20 February 1955 – 1 December 2018) was an Italian actor. Life and career Born in Gallese, province of Viterbo, Fantastichini studied acting at the Accademia Nazionale di Arte Drammatica Silvio D'Amico. His breakout role was Tommaso Scalia in Gianni Amelio's '' Open Doors'', a role that gave him a Nastro d'Argento, a Ciak d'oro and a special European Film Award as European Discovery of the Year. Hans Frank
Hans Michael Frank (23 May 1900 – 16 October 1946) was a German politician and lawyer who served as head of the General Government in Nazi-occupied Poland during the Second World War. Frank was an early member of the German Workers' Party (DAP), the precursor of the Nazi Party (NSDAP). He took part in the failed Beer Hall Putsch, and later became Adolf Hitler's personal legal adviser as well as the lawyer of the NSDAP. In June 1933, he was named as a ' (Reich Leader) of the party.
