Karl Fitzpatrick
Karl Fitzpatrick (born 13 September 1980) is a former Ireland national rugby league team, Ireland international rugby league , and Chief executive officer of the Warrington Wolves in the Super League. Playing career Fitzpatrick was originally a scrum half before he switched to full back. He is a product of Wigan St Patricks. Fitzpatrick began his professional career at Widnes Vikings, followed by spells at Tonneins XIII (Rugby League in France, France) and Swinton Lions. Fitzpatrick signed for Salford in 2003. In 2004, Fitzpatrick represented Ireland national rugby league team, Ireland in the Rugby League European Cup, and also picked up the most improved player award at Salford Red Devils, Salford. He was named in the 2008 Rugby League World Cup squads#Ireland, Ireland squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup. Wigan
Wigan ( ) is a large town in Greater Manchester, England, on the River Douglas, Lancashire, River Douglas. The town is midway between the two cities of Manchester, to the south-east, and Liverpool, to the south-west. Bolton lies to the north-east and Warrington to the south. 2008 Rugby League World Cup
The 2008 Rugby League World Cup was the thirteenth staging of the Rugby League World Cup since its inauguration in 1954, and the first since the 2000 tournament. The tournament was held in Australia from 26 October, culminating in the final between Australia and New Zealand on 22 November. The tournament was the fourth time that the World Cup was held in Australia, the first being in 1957. The tournament was won by New Zealand, who defeated Australia 34–20 in the final in one of the greatest upsets in the history of the sport. The tournament featured the best ten teams around the globe which were split into three groups. A total of eighteen matches took place in twelve different venues across four Australian states. The tournament ended a year of celebrations commemorating the centenary of the game in the southern hemisphere and was part of the Festival of World Cups. Tonneins XIII Players
Tonneins (; oc, Tonens) is a town in the Lot-et-Garonne department of south-western France. It stands above the river Garonne, between Marmande to the west and Agen to the east, and is the first major town below the confluence of the Lot and Garonne Rivers after which the department is named. Tonneins station has rail connections to Agen, Langon and Bordeaux. Until the early 2000s, it was the tobacco capital of France. It is known for its quays alongside which the tobacco barges were previously moored. When the tobacco factory closed down in 2004 and production moved to Spain, the town was badly affected economically with the loss of more than 500 jobs. The surrounding countryside still contains many wooden sheds, known locally as 'sechoirs', formerly used to dry the tobacco leaves.
