Karl Cauer
Karl Ludwig Cauer (14 February 1828, Bonn - 17 April 1885, Bad Kreuznach) was a German sculptor in the Classicism, Classical style. Life and work His father, Emil Cauer the Elder, was a sculptor. His younger brother, Robert Cauer the Elder, Robert, became one as well. He and his wife, Magdalene (1828-1906) had seven children. Their five sons all became artists: Robert Cauer the Younger, Robert, Hugo (1864–1918), Ludwig Cauer, Ludwig and Emil Cauer the Younger, Emil were sculptors; was a painter. His daughter, Maria (1861-1928) married the composer, Arnold Mendelssohn. He received his initial training in his family's workshop, then left for to Berlin, where he was given further instruction by Christian Daniel Rauch and Albert Wolff (sculptor), Albert Wolff. In 1848, he moved to Rome to study antiquities. In 1851, he went to London to examine the Elgin Marbles, and stayed there until 1854; working as a portrait painter. Friedrich Schiller
Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller (, short: ; 10 November 17599 May 1805) was a German playwright, poet, and philosopher. During the last seventeen years of his life (1788–1805), Schiller developed a productive, if complicated, friendship with the already famous and influential Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. They frequently discussed issues concerning aesthetics, and Schiller encouraged Goethe to finish works that he had left as sketches. This relationship and these discussions led to a period now referred to as Weimar Classicism. The Rheinland-Pfälzische Personendatenbank (People database of Rhineland-Palatinate, RPPD) is an internet database with short biographies of people who have lived or worked in Rhineland-Palatinate. It is being edited at four scientific libraries in Rhineland-Palatinate: Rheinische Landesbibliothek Koblenz, Pfälzische Landesbibliothek Speyer, Stadtbibliothek Mainz, Stadtbibliothek Trier. The RPPD is hosted by Rheinische Landesbibliothek Koblenz, a facility of the Landesbibliothekszentrums Rheinland-Pfalz. Content Research for the Rheinland-Pfälzische Bibliographie often results also in biographical data. In 2005 this developed into the idea for a separate database. Hyacinth Holland
Hyacinth Holland (16 August 1827 – 16 January 1918) was a German art and literature historian. Life Born in Munich, Holland was a son of the lawyer Christoph Holland and his wife Karoline Seel. In 1846 he passed the Abitur at the Wilhelmsgymnasium München. At the Universität of his hometown, Holland began to study Catholic theology, but later switched to law and medicine. He successfully completed his studies in art and literary history in 1853 at the University of Würzburg with a doctorate. In 1853, Holland also made his successful debut as a writer; he published the first volume of a ''History of German Literature'' (planned for three volumes, this work remained a fragment). Throughout his life, he earned his living as a freelance contributor to various newspapers and magazines. Friedrich Noack
Friedrich Noack, who wrote under the pseudonym ''F. Idus'', (20 April 1858, Gießen – 1 February 1930, Freiburg, Freiburg im Breisgau) was a German cultural historian and author, who wrote several articles for the Künstlerlexikon (arts dictionary) Thieme-Becker. In 1886, he translated Sebastian Brant's "Narrenschiff" and published it with his own illustrations. For his work on the Germans in Rome in the 18th century, he devised a comprehensive archive of notes. On 18,000 slips of paper, it contains over 11,000 entries on artists active in Rome and their clients, usually in Gabelsberger shorthand, but also in newspaper cuttings and archive statements.
