Jean Longuet
Jean-Laurent-Frederick Longuet (5 October 1876 – 11 September 1938) was a French socialist politician and journalist. He was Karl Marx's grandson. Early years Jean, often called 'Johnny' as a boy by his family, was born in London on October 5, 1876, the son of Charles and Jenny Longuet. He was their second son, and the eldest who survived to adulthood. The family often visited Jenny's father, Karl Marx, who liked to play with his grandchildren. The Longuet family moved to France in February 1881. In summer 1882 Karl Marx stayed with the Longuets for three months, being joined by Jean's aunt Eleanor Marx. By this time Jenny was suffering from bladder cancer, and would die a year later. To ease the burden on the family, Eleanor took Jean back to England in August 1882, promising to educate and discipline him. They became close, with Eleanor thinking of him as ‘my boy’. Charles Longuet
Charles Félix César Longuet (14 February 1839, Caen – 5 August 1903, Paris) was a journalist and prominent figure in the French working-class movement, including the 1871 Paris Commune, as well as a Proudhonist member of the General Council of the First International or International Working Men's Association (1866–67, 1871–72). He served as Corresponding Secretary for Belgium (1866), delegate to the Lausanne (1867), Brussels (1868), the London Conference (1871) and the (1872). He was also the editor of the publication ''Journal Officiel''. Longuet participated in the Paris Commune of 1871 and, after its defeat, moved to England as a refugee where he met Karl Marx. Longuet married Marx's eldest daughter, Jenny, on 2 October 1872 in London (in a civil ceremony). Simone Boisecq
Simone Boisecq (April 7, 1922 - August 6, 2012) was a French sculptor who worked in Algiers and Paris. Her work has been described as a synthesis between abstraction and figuration. Early life and education Boisecq was born in Algiers to Émile Boisecq and Suzanne Deferre on April 7, 1922. Her father was from Brittany, Vannes, and had moved to Algiers in 1920. He was a liberal Catholic who worked as a military administrator and supported the cultural and national causes of the Bretons. Additionally, he supported the Romani people, Kabyles, Arabs, and Indigenous peoples of the Americas. He held an interest in primitive art (such as Breton art), collected works of African art, as well as made art himself and wrote poetry. Boisecq's mother, Suzanne Deferre (b. 1898 in Izmir), was raised in a convent orphanage. She made her living giving piano lessons in Constantinople, and moved to Algiers in 1920.
