Karl-Gösta Lundmark
Lieutenant General Karl Gösta (Karl-Gösta) Olof Lundmark (18 January 1919 – 16 November 1995) was a senior Swedish Army officer. Lundmark served as chief of staff of the IV Military District (1961–1965), of the Bergslagen Military District (1972–1974) and of the Upper Norrland Military District (1974–1976). He also served as Commanding General of the Upper Norrland Military District (1976–1980). Early life Lundmark was born on 18 January 1919 in Överluleå Parish, Boden Municipality, Sweden, the son of Hjalmar Lundmark, a farmer, and his wife Bertha (née Karlsson). Admiral Bengt Gustaf Gottfrid Lundvall (30 October 1915 – 30 November 2010) was a senior Swedish Navy officer. He was Chief of the Navy from 1970 to 1978. Early life Lundvall was born on 30 October 1915 in Björkäng parish, Töreboda Municipality, Sweden, the son of the clerk Gottfrid Lundvall and his wife Elna (née Andersson). The Royal Order of the Sword (officially: ''Royal Order of the Sword''; Swedish: ''Kungliga Svärdsorden'') is a Swedish order of chivalry and military decoration created by King Frederick I of Sweden on February 23, 1748, together with the Order of the Seraphim and the Order of the Polar Star. The motto of the order is in Latin: ''Pro Patria'' (which means "For Fatherland"). Awarded to officers, and originally intended as an award for bravery and particularly long or useful service, it eventually became a more or less obligatory award for military officers after a certain number of years in service. Major (Maj) ( sv, Major, Mj) is a field grade military officer rank in the Swedish Armed Forces, above the rank of captain and below the rank of lieutenant colonel. It is equivalent to the naval rank of lieutenant commander in the Swedish Navy. History The rank of major was introduced in the middle of the 16th century in the Spanish and German armies, and its holders were assigned to the regimental commander. After the introduction of the battalion division, the major was eventually given command of a battalion in all armies, as was the lieutenant colonel.
