The Quebec Liberal Party (QLP; french: Parti libéral du Québec, PLQ) is a provincial political party in Quebec. It has been independent of the federal Liberal Party of Canada since 1955. Richmond is a provincial electoral riding in the Estrie region of Quebec, Canada, which elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes parts of the city of Sherbrooke as well as the municipalities of Val-des-Sources, Windsor, Saint-Denis-de-Brompton, Danville and Richmond. It was created for the 1890 election from a part of the Richmond-Wolfe electoral district. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, its territory was altered substantially. Yvon Vallières
Yvon Vallières (born February 5, 1949 in Richmond, Quebec) is a Quebec politician and teacher. He was a Member of National Assembly of Quebec for the riding of Richmond in the Estrie region from 1973 to 1976 and from 1981 to 2012. Formerly the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food from 2003 to 2007, he is the current Chair of the Government Caucus. He was a member of the Quebec Liberal Party. Education Vallières went to the Université de Sherbrooke and obtained a bachelor's degree in pedagogy and would teach at several schools from 1970 to 1972 and from 1976 to 1981 while being a councilor at the Commission Scolaire de Taillon in 1972. André Bachand (born December 8, 1961) is a Canadian politician, who represented the riding of Richmond—Arthabaska as member of the Progressive Conservatives from 1997 to 2003. When the PC Party was merged with the Canadian Alliance into the Conservative Party in December 2003, Bachand left the party and sat as an "Independent Progressive Conservative" until the 2004 election, and then retired from the House of Commons. 2012 Quebec General Election
The 2012 Quebec general election took place in the Canadian province of Quebec on September 4, 2012. Lieutenant Governor Pierre Duchesne dissolved the National Assembly on August 1, 2012, following Premier Jean Charest's request. The Parti Québécois were elected to a minority government, with Pauline Marois becoming the first woman to be Premier of Quebec. The Quebec Liberal Party took second place, with Premier Jean Charest losing his seat. The newly formed party Coalition Avenir Québec led by François Legault took third place, while Québec solidaire took 2 seats out of the 125. It was the first time since 2007 (and only the third time in Quebec history) that a minority government would be formed, as no party won an absolute majority of the seats.
