Karibasavaiah
Karibasavaiah (1959 – 3 February 2012) was an Indian actor who appeared in Kannada cinema and a theatre personality. He has acted in over 120 films. He died on 3 February 2012 after a road traffic accident in Bangalore. He made his debut in the movie ''Undo Hodha, Kondu Hodha''. Some of his memorable films are ''Kotreshi Kanasu'', ''Janumada Jodi'', ''Galate Aliyandru'', ''Mungarina Minchu'', ''Yaarige Salute Sambala'', ''Police Story 2'' and ''Ullasa Utsaha''. Background He was born in 1959 and belonged to a poor Kuruba Gowda family. As a child, he learnt Kuruba Gowda art forms like Kamsale, Dollu Kunitha and Harikathe. He worked as a lab assistant in a Seshadripuram college before entering film industry. He started acting in television serials beginning with ''Doddamane''. ''Kotreshi Kanasu'' ( kn, ಕೊಟ್ರೇಶಿ ಕನಸು, ''Dream of Kotreshi'') is a 1994 Indian Kannada language film directed by Nagathihalli Chandrashekar starring Vijay Raghavendra and Karibasavaiah. The film won two National Film Awards at 42nd National Film Awards; Best Feature Film in Kannada and Best Child Artist (Vijay Raghavendra). Plot Kotra is a vibrant young boy belonging to the lower caste, loved and admired by the entire village even the upper class for his intelligence. ''Ulta Palta'' () is a 1997 Indian Kannada film directed by N. S. Shankar and starring Ramesh Aravind, Kashi and Sushma Veer. It is based on Shakespeare's ''The Comedy of Errors''. Umashree
Umashree (born 10 May 1957) is an Indian actress and politician. She is known for her portrayal of film roles spoken in the Kannada language (over 400), particularly comic roles. She received National Film Award for Best Actress for her role as Gulabi in the 2008 Kannada movie Gulabi Talkies. In 2013, Umashree became a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Karnataka in the government of Siddaramaiah where she was the minister for women and child development, empowerment of the differently abled and senior citizens, Kannada language and culture.
