Kargıpınarı (former ''Gilindire'') is a town in Mersin Province, Turkey Geography Kargıpınarı is situated on the Mersin Antalya highway at . It is a part of Erdemli district which in turn is a part of Mersin Province. The town is east of Erdemli and west of Mersin. The population is 11923 as of 2012. Etymology and History The former name of the town is Gilindire. There are two theories about the origin of this name. The town shares the same name with the river at the east side of the town. The earliest reference to the river can be found in Evliya Çelebi’s Seyahatname of 1671 with the name ''Gelendir''. According to the other theory the name began to be used as recently as 19th century. Mersin Province
Mersin Province ( tr, ), formerly İçel Province ( tr, ), is a province in southern Turkey, on the Mediterranean coast between Antalya and Adana. The provincial capital and the biggest city in the province is Mersin, which is composed of four municipalities and district governorates: Akdeniz, Mezitli, Toroslar and Yenişehir. Next largest is Tarsus, the birthplace of Paul the Apostle. The province is considered to be a part of the geographical, economical and cultural region of Çukurova, which covers the provinces of Mersin, Adana, Osmaniye and Hatay. Evliya Çelebi
Derviş Mehmed Zillî (25 March 1611 – 1682), known as Evliya Çelebi ( ota, اوليا چلبى), was an Ottoman explorer who travelled through the territory of the Ottoman Empire and neighboring lands over a period of forty years, recording his commentary in a travelogue called the '' Seyâhatnâme'' ("Book of Travel"). The name Çelebi is an honorific title meaning "gentleman" or "man of God" (see pre-1934 Turkish naming conventions). Life Evliya Çelebi was born in Constantinople in 1611 to a wealthy family from Kütahya. Both his parents were attached to the Ottoman court, his father, Derviş Mehmed Zilli, as a jeweller, and his mother as an Abkhazian relation of the grand vizier Melek Ahmed Pasha. Aydıncık, Mersin
Aydıncık is a town and district of Mersin Province on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, from Mersin and from Antalya. Aydıncık has also been called in Armenian Կելենդերիդա, and ''Gilindire'', from Kelenderis ( gr, Κελένδερις). This remote coastline is mostly unspoilt and 38 kilometers long, including some sandy beach, and the town of Aydıncık is spread along the coast near a small point, Sancak Burnu. History Aydıncık is the site of the ancient Greek ''Celenderis'', a port and fortress in ancient Cilicia and later Isauria. It was one of the best harbours of this coast in ancient times and also a very strong defensive position. Artemidorus, with other geographers, considered this place, as the commencement of Cilicia. Oghuz Turks
The Oghuz or Ghuzz Turks (Middle Turkic languages, Middle Turkic: ٱغُز, ''Oγuz'', ota, اوغوز, Oġuz) were a western Turkic people that spoke the Oghuz languages, Oghuz branch of the Turkic languages, Turkic language family. D.400 is an east–west state road in southern Turkey. The road starts at Datça in the southwest corner of the Anatolian peninsula. The road ends at the Iranian border at Esendere.
