Karen Splid Møller
Karen Splid Møller (1800–1880) was a Norwegian cookbook writer who is remembered for the handwritten cookbook which she began to compile in 1819, making it one of the oldest sources of Norwegian recipes. It consists mainly of recipes for desserts, cakes and pastries but also includes details for a number of fine hot dishes. As the book was compiled at Moldegård, the house where she lived in Molde in the northernmost part of Western Norway, it is known as ''kokebok fra Moldegård'' or the Moldegård Cookbook. Biography Møller was born in Molde in 1800, the daughter of Jens Worm Møller (1773–1813) and his wife Louise Augusta née Baade (1778–1813). She was 13 years old when both her parents died within a few months of each other. In September 1820, she married Peder Jalles Øwre (1788–1851) who from 1818 was the first pharmacist in Ålesund. Molde () is a town and municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Romsdal. Ålesund () sometimes spelled Aalesund in English, is a municipality in Møre og Romsdal County, Norway. It is part of the traditional district of Sunnmøre and the centre of the Ålesund Region. The town of Ålesund is the administrative centre of Ålesund Municipality, as well as the principal shipping town of the Sunnmøre district. Romsdal Museum
The Romsdal Museum ( no, Romsdalsmuseet) is a museum in the Romsdal district of Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The museum is based in Molde Municipality, but it has sites all over the region. History The museum was founded by Peter Tønder Solemdal (1876-1963) in 1912, and is one of the largest and most extensive folk museums in Norway. In addition, the museum has a library and several archives for prints, text, and photographs. In 1928, the museum was opened to the public. In the middle of the field is the old "Isdammen", previously used for ice production. The area also contains a lake, which is very popular with local birds, and a stage that is used during Moldejazz, the Molde International Jazz Festival. Maren Elisabeth Bang
Maren Elisabeth Bang (1797–1884) was a Norwegian cookbook writer who wrote the first printed Norwegian cookbook ''Huusholdnings-Bog, indrettet efter den almindelige Brug i norske Huusholdninger'' in 1831. Her early publications were anonymous but after 1842 she published in her own name. She was the most productive 19th-century Norwegian author of cookbooks and housekeeping guides. Biography The daughter of Hans Arnt Poulsen (1768–1809) and Sara Elisabeth Bergström (1770–1845), she was brought up at Skansgården near Kongsvinger in south-eastern Norway. In 1817, she married Lieutenant Lauritz Christian Steen Bang who from 1829 to 1839 was imprisoned for embezzlement while working at Norges Bank in Christiania (now Oslo). While he was in prison, Maren Bang earned a living by selling meals, which she either delivered herself or sold from home.
