Karen Dunbar
Karen Dunbar (born 1 April 1971) is a Scottish comedian, actress and writer. She first appeared on television on the BBC Scotland sketch comedy series ''Chewin' the Fat'' (1999–2002), and was subsequently given her own show by the channel titled ''The Karen Dunbar Show'' (2003–2006). Early life Dunbar was born in Glasgow and moved to Ayr at an early age. She attended Ayr Academy. Career ''Chewin' the Fat'' Dunbar began her career as a DJ and karaoke host before she attended The Comedy Unit's open auditions in 1997 where she was cast in the BBC Scotland comedy sketch show ''Chewin' the Fat.'' It has been rumoured that Dunbar was offered the role of Isa for the spin-off ''Still Game'' focusing on the characters Jack Jarvis and Victor McDade, but she declined in order to star in her own show. ''Mary Queen of Scots'' is a 2018 historical drama film directed by Josie Rourke (in her feature directorial debut) and with a screenplay by Beau Willimon based on John Guy (historian), John Guy's 2004 biography ''Queen of Scots: The True Life of Mary Stuart''. The film stars Saoirse Ronan as Mary, Queen of Scots, and Margot Robbie as her cousin Elizabeth I of England, Queen Elizabeth I. ''Calendar Girls'' is a stage play based on the 2003 film of the same name. Production history The play was adapted by Tim Firth and directed by Hamish McColl. After a successful try-out at the Chichester Festival Theatre in September 2008 and a lengthy national tour, a stage adaptation of the film started previewing on 4 April 2009 at the Noël Coward Theatre in the West End, opening on 20 April. River City
''River City'' is a Scottish television soap opera that was first broadcast on BBC One Scotland on 24 September 2002. ''River City'' follows the lives of the people who live and work in the fictional district of Shieldinch. In November 2017, a short crossover episode of the show was made for '' Children in Need'' and featured several of the show's characters meeting characters from Scottish sitcom ''Scot Squad''. In March 2020, production of ''River City'' was halted due to the COVID–19 pandemic, and filming recommenced in August 2020.
