Karel David
Karel David (born 8 February 1964 in Nový Jičín, Czechoslovakia) is a retired long-distance runner from the Czech Republic, who won the 1991 and 1992 edition of the Vienna Marathon. David represented Czechoslovakia twice in the men's marathon (1988 and 1992) at the Summer Olympics. He set his personal best time (2:11:57) on 23 May 1993 at the Hamburg Marathon. Nový Jičín
Nový Jičín (; german: Neutitschein) is a town in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 23,000 inhabitants. The historic centre of Nový Jičín is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument reservation. Nový Jičín is known for the hatting industry and is nicknamed the "town of hats". 1997 World Championships In Athletics
The 6th World Championships in Athletics, under the auspices of the International Amateur Athletic Federation, were held at the Olympic Stadium, Athens, Greece between August 1 and August 10, 1997. In this event participated 1882 athletes from 198 participant nations. Athens used the successful organization of the World Championships the next month during the IOC Session in Lausanne during its campaign to host the 2004 Summer Olympics as proof positive of Athens' and Greece's ability and readiness to organize large-scale, international sporting events. It was the first edition to award wild cards to defending champions even if they did not qualify for their national team. The 5th World Championships in Athletics, under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federations, were held at the Ullevi Stadium, Gothenburg, Sweden on 5–13 August 1995. This edition featured 1804 athletes from 191 nations. This competition saw the women run the 5000 m event at the World Championships for the first time.
