Karate At The 2015 European Games
Karate competitions at the 2015 European Games in Baku were held from 13 to 14 June 2015 at the Crystal Hall complex in Baku. The competition consisted of twelve events, six in each gender - two ''Kata'' or technique events, and ten weighted ''kumite'' or combat events. Qualification Each National Olympic Committee will be allowed a maximum of 1 competitor per event. Each event will consist of eight competitors Qualification will be based on the 2015 European Karate Championships between 19 and 22 March 2015 in Istanbul, Turkey; the first six finishers in each event qualify for the European Games. Hosts Azerbaijan will be awarded an entry in each event. In addition, 12 'Universality' places will be allocated, one in each event, to ensure a spread of nations can compete. Baku Crystal Hall
Baku Crystal Hall ( Azerbaijani: ''Bakı Kristal Zalı'') is an indoor arena in Baku, Azerbaijan. Located on the coast of Baku near National Flag Square, construction of the arena began in August 2011 and finished in April 2012in time for it to host its first major event, the Eurovision Song Contest 2012. History Baku Crystal Hall was built in order to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2012. On 2 August 2011, the main agreement was signed with Alpine Bau Deutschland AG to construct the venue and preparations for construction had been started in the area. Even though the full cost of the contract was not named, the government allocated 6 million AZN for the construction of the venue. Niyazi Aliyev
Niyazi Zulfugar oghlu Taghizade Hajibeyov ( az, Niyazi Zülfüqar bəy oğlu Hacıbəyov) (1912–1984) was a prominent Soviet Azerbaijani conductor, and composer of the renowned symphonic mugham "Rast". Early life Niyazi was born on August 20, 1912 in Tbilisi in a family of prominent Shusha musicians. His father was the composer Zulfugar Hajibeyov. He is the nephew of Uzeyir Hajibeyov, the founder of the Azeri classical music. He was playing the violin in "Qırmızı Kadet" Turkish military orchestra in 1921. He studied at the Gnessin Music School in Moscow in 1925-1926. In 1929-30 he studied at the Central Musical Technical School in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg), but dropped out due to health problems. He returned to Baku in 1931. Serap Özçelik
Serap Özçelik Arapoğlu (born February 18, 1988) is a Turkish karateka, who competes in the kumite 50–53 kg divisions. She won a world title in 2014 and a European title in 2011, 2012 and 2014. Özçelik took up karate in 2000 at Eyüp, Istanbul, and in 2005 was included to the national team. She is a member of EGO Sport Club in Ankara. Özçelik works as a teacher of physical education in Yaşar Doğu Primary School in Kağıthane, Istanbul. At the 2013 World Games held in Cali, Colombia, she won the gold medal in the women's kumite 50 kg event. In the final she defeated Alexandra Recchia of France. Dilara Bozan (born 28 March 1997) is a Turkish karateka. She is a two-time gold medalist in the women's individual kata event at the Islamic Solidarity Games. She is also a nine-time medalist in this event at the European Karate Championships. Career Bozan won the bronze medal in the women's kata event at the 2015 European Games held in Baku, Azerbaijan. Sandy Scordo (born 25 July 1985) is a French karateka. She is a two-time silver medallist at the World Karate Championships in the women's individual kata event, both in 2012 and in 2014. Career Scordo won one of the bronze medals in the women's kata event at the 2009 European Karate Championships held in Zagreb, Croatia. Sandra Sánchez Jaime (born 16 September 1981) is a retired Spanish karateka. She won the gold medal in the women's kata event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
